I've tried to show her that I'm boss...She refused to drop the toy, its' very hard to get her to release it, and when I do she continues to growl at me. I usually end up putting her in the crate and letting Bella play. But lately she seems to be getting more jealous or something and goes after her more and more. It's a dilema because Bella has an enlarged heart and is very nervous and skittish. It's my fault I should have never bought another female, but I had no idea they wouldn't get along. I also have a male peek-a-poo and Gracie has no problem with him at all. I'm really afraiid that she may end up seriously hurting her or killing her. I am talking to someone who runs a yorkie rescue and she is willing to take her, but it's so hard to think about not having her in my life. I want both my dogs to have happy lives, and to be able to play and have fun. As it is right now no one gets toys and when they go outside I have to watch Gracie like a hawk so that Bella doesn't do something to make her mad.

If you really can't make it work maybe a YTer can take her. Dogs don't understand time outs so that won't work. I would force her to let go of the toy and growl loudly right back if needed. I actuall bite our Kayla to train her and she is awesome now but boy was she hard to train! I worked on her for over three months to get her to be a part of the pack.

I hope you can either get her trained or find her a good home.

I am glad you are getting your puppy back. A puppy is very much like a 12 yr old child. I can see why it did not work out for them.
Many people work and own dogs. Going home on your lunch is a good idea. Reassure the puppy and give her lot's of TLC. I hope this will be a good thing and you and your husband can keep your puppy this time. Your baby needs to be in a stable home in order to feel secure.

Jeri, Did I read your post right? Biting your Kayla in order to train her? LOL, I personally could never, ever do that, no matter how misbehaved Suzi is. :aimeeyork

I have a bit of a problem with your post. Why are you giving up the older dog? Do you understand that an older dog, with a serious behavior issue is going to have a hard time finding a home? If you really can't make things work and have to give one of them up, why not the younger dog? Haven't you bonded with the dog you've had for 6 years? Have you worked with a behavioralist? Has the woman with the rescue offered any advice on making things work? Would it be totally impossible to keep the girls separted?

I used to have to go over to mine to discipline, now all i have to do is a low growl and show my teeth. You might feel foolish doing it, but it is the language that they understand.

It's all in your look and body language. If she is ot dropping the toy and is growling at you then she is not seeing you as the boss. You have to be more persistant. Put your hand on the toy, look her in the eye and show your teeth. Do not look away. Do not let her win.

If she snaps at you then you snap back. You cannot back down. when you feed her hold her dish and make her sit calmly before you five her the food. Even pretend to be eating out of the bowl. All of these things will show her that you ar the boss.

this can all be done in one hour. After that you have to keep it ujp or she will go back to taking over.

But if you want to keep her and to end the fighting, that is what you have to do. Remain calm the entire time. They sense nervouisness anxiety anger etc and those are all signs of weakness.

absolutely!!! you don't bite them hard, just the snarl and a touch will do. If you want to communicate with a dog, speak their language.
