advice? Hello there, I'm mama to Fyo, my 6 month old yorkie. He was neutered on Monday. Yesterday he somehow pulled one of his stitches out - his buster collar was too small. I took him to the vet first thing in the morning and the vet gave him a larger sized collar. He said it was ok that he pulled that one stitch out since he did two sets of stitches, an inner set and an outer set which is just for good measure. Today, Fyo somehow got his lower jaw caught in the collar and I freaked out because there was a little bit of blood on it. I took the collar off, washed off his face and went to the pet store to see if I could get him a t-shirt, like a onesie (the vet said I could also use those and just remove it when he needed to go to the bathroom to keep him from licking). When I got back, I put him on the couch and he licked his stitch for just a couple of seconds till I got him, and when I looked the last outside stitch was gone. What should I do? Sorry if this is posted in the wrong spot, I'm new here! |
AAWWW poor baby. I know alot here use onesis...call the vet and tell them he pulled another stitch and see what they say. I loved the way they did my babies when they got fixed. They stitched them and then glued the top skin so there weren't any stitches exposed and they didn't have to wear the collar. |
Oh BTW - Welcome to YT! |
The day after my female, Ramsey, had her spay...during the night while we slept she elected to remove ALL her stitches. I discovered it the next morning. Since I was worried it could pop open...I took her to the emergency's vet. They examined it, applied a liquid bandage over it...and said it was fine. You might want to take him back to vet for their opinion. |
Hi there and welcome to YT. I would call your vet and ask him for suggestions. your boy is determined to pull of them out isnt' he. :aimeeyork |
AHH I thought boys didn;t need the onesis?!?!? henry goes fri to get neutered... i better get some stuff for him!! |
Thanks for the responses, everyone! The incision looks much better this morning; yesterday it was a little red. I still have that big plastic collar on his neck, though, since I know he'll try to lick it the second I take it off. Has anyone ever used an anti-infection treatment like Polysporin on their puppy? Oh and I'm going to post some pix soon of my little guy- I just got a new computer and need to transfer everything still. |
welcome to YT...glad you found us! Can't wait to see pictures of your baby! Try going to target and get the onsies for $1 in the one spot section...hope that helps! |
