New Morkie mom Hello everyone. We adopted a beautiful little girl at 8 weeks old and she got very spoiled pretty fast. I've been reading a lot about puppy training and one thing I have to say: my baby is not average. I read that puppies can't hold their potty for too long...Well, Nini is now 10 weeks old and she can hold it alright. She goes to bed at 9:30 and she goes to the bathroom at around 6:00 am. Problem? She goes any where except her crate and the street. If we go out and stay out the better part of the day, she'll hold it until we get home! I'm gonna look around this forum to see if there's anything posted that can help me with this and other issues with MY mommy training short-comings:rolleyes: |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk! I know a lot of people that have problems with this take their pups for a walk. That way it gets everything moving. Or perhaps using the potty spray where you want her to go. :) |

Welcome!! Its not unusual for you to go through this phase. I wouldn't recommend her taking her too long of walks because she still needs to get all her vaccinations, so she's protected. I really had to watch Romeo closely and the moment I was looking away he sneaked to a corner and did his thing!! So watch her closely, put her in her kennel if she goes where she's not suppose to go. She will not like it but she needs to learn she can't just go anywhere. When she starts going on the pads, always praise her. Romeo is almost a year and I still praise him because he looks forward to being called a "Good boy" and does his proud prancing around..lol... Sounds easy enought, right? Just be patient, it will take some time. Again, welcome and feel free to share pics, we all looveee pics on here:D |

New Morkie Mom My Gucci was able to hold it through the night at 6 weeks when we brought him home. I was anxious for him to complete his vaccinations so I could start outside training. We're at about 75% trained and he's 17 weeks old. During the day, I keep him in his "Condo" (pet playpen). He uses the potty pad unless we are home to take him out. Give your little one time. . . I am! |

Thanks everybody I've tried some of the things you suggest, like, taking Nini for a walk---she won't move. Ah, unless there's a bug or a rock, then, she dashes for it. And you're right, Malia, she doesn't have all of her shots yet and that worries me. Nini also sneaks and takes a quickie when I'm not looking. She gives signs for #2, sniffing and circling around like a mental patient, but for wee-wee---nothing. When she wee-wees, she looks like she's just sitting there being an angel. I was using the pads and they worked for a bit, but then she started on the carpet. Now, I'm taking her to the yard (she loves the catch of the day---BUGS :eek:) She loses her mind when she sees them. Praising? she could not care less, or so it seems. It's as if she gives me what I want, but then, she doesn't want to be bothered and she's off to catch something:rolleyes: I've given her only about a 5x10 space in the yard. Guccibear, how did you get Gucci to go outside and in the pad? It seems like Nini has thrown her paws up and until we make up our minds on where we want her to go, she won't budge:confuse2: |
New Morkie Mom Just lucky! And, we took him on a 10 day car trip and I think that because we were able to work out a schedule during the trip helped a lot. Gucci's feet don't touch the floor in the morning until I have his harness and leash on. He leads me to the door and we walk up and down the driveway until he's finished. Sometimes that will take 10 - 15 minutes. My husband is retired, so he will take Gucci out at lunchtime. I walk him again when I get home from work and again before bed. Sometimes I'll take him for a walk down the street between dinner and bed. It all depends on whether he's "in the mood". I think he's about 98% trained at 19 weeks. Occasionally he'll use the pad in his playpen, but sometimes we go days without having to change the pad. |
