You are so lucky that your mom heard that! If people would just teach their kids some respect - no one should ever try to pet a dog in it's yard without permission! If they ever come around again, I would follow them home and talk to their parents. We had an incident around here where a rottweiler bit two girls on seperate occasions, AFTER they had been told not to try to pet it. It was in it's own yard and they were petting it on a dare. The parents wanted to make the owners have it put to sleep, but they couldn't! Sadly, the owners had to give the dog to other family members because of the uproar. Neither they or the dog had done anything wrong, it was the young girls fault on both occasions, they figured they didn't have to follow the rules and then their parents stuck up for them and blamed the poor dog for their recklessness and stupidity!

I was also going to say this!!! Even in the first couple years, your little dogs still can have a high re-sale value. It's sad, but true.

When I first got Sully, my uncle warned me about this. He said it has happened in his neighborhood numerous times. People will snatch your dogs right out of your yard and sell them. GRR!!!!

This is a good reason for microchipping too!!!!!

I still have a poster down stairs from a bereft woman who had her 2 precious Yorkies taken from her yard. It broke my heart then, and still does. The worry she must feel would be unbearable for me, I hate just remembering it. To always worry if they are safe and being taken care of, or worse. Just to cruel to contemplate.

Some people can be so cruel. My babies don’t leave my sight, period!

How terrible! They might have just been trying to pet them, but the main thing is, anyone can open the gate, if you're there or not, so please, GET A LOCK! That's all you would need to do, I should: think. Stay safe, furbabies everywhere! :thumbup:
