Is anyone else sick of "I want a free yorkie"? I don't know if this has ever been discussed or not on YT, but is anyone else sick of people begging for a free yorkie, a low cost baby yorkie, or make up a story on why they NEED a yorkie? That just drives me crazy! Everywhere I look, someone is begging for free yorkies. Craigslist, Kijiji, Hoobly, Forums, other sites. Why do people feel entitled to a free dog, when everyone else has to pay for one? Why do they want one if they can not afford the initial price? I just read one tonight about how a lady had a yorkie, and it got stolen from her yard, (must not have been watching it) and now she promised her kids she could get them another one, but could not afford one. She then went on to post, that it must be a baby, get no bigger than 4 pounds, and be a female, BUT that she would "accept" one that gets 5 pounds:mad: Accept, are you kidding me??? You are begging people who you don't know, for a very expensive pet none the less, for FREE, and then you have the nerve to want to be specific? Sorry but this drives me crazy! Rant over:D |

Hello Hello, I am new to the forum, however I agree with you 100%. If you can not afford the initial price of a Yorkie, than you should go with another pet that you can afford IE: Gold Fish (affordable, & low maintenance). Nothing gets under my skin more than for people to get these precious babies for there young children, etc....and can not afford to give them the life that they deserve. Get the breed because you love the breed, not because it is the latest hottest accessory that you see the celebritys toting around in a designer purse!!!! |
Tell anyone you see/hear saying that that they should look in shelters and on Petfinder.com. At least that will give them some possibilities while giving a homeless yorkie a chance at a home. And, Petfinder will check out the prospective new homes to make sure they're fit to care for the new pets. |
I don't want to offend anyone - but I get tired of the obsessive WEIGHT posts - THEY ARE ALL SMALL - but sometimes it seems that's all people want to talk about. and ya the free yorkie Ads are usually scams so those looking need to be VERY CAREFUL |
Here at the rescue , I often hear peoples asking for a free Yorkie . Most of the time peoples are asking for a registered one , intact and preferably females around 6 months and 2 years old . Some peoples get very mad at us when we tell them that our little ones are all spayed or neutered before leaving . |
I just get sick of people being so picky when they want a pet for free |
Coming from someone who was originally looking for a cheaper Yorkie, I can understand those wanting to pay a smaller fee for the actual dog so that they can in fact afford the other things that come with it. In the end though you have to come to the mind set that paying more in the beginning often costs you less in the long run as far as puppies go. But yes I would direct those looking for a pet for cheaper to go to Petfinder. But it doesn't bother me a whole lot, I just don't look at those wanted ads. You can't expect to get a healthy non-stray yorkie young puppy for free. I just don't like the things on craigslist and such asking for a free 3lb "teacup" yorkie. Do a little research people! |
Yes, those things grate on my nerves too and people definately know how to appeal to your emotions. Sadly, it's actually alot better than it used to be. I was very grateful when Admin implemented rules that do not allow that in the ForSale/Wanted section, explaining why it is an issue and suggesting and directing those to the rescue section. |

Very well said V. I couldn't agree with you more. |
I had my manicurist ask me to breed Nina (who is limited registered) whom I did not buy her to breed anyway. She had the gall when I explained that not only did I not want to but couldn't..to say "well who is going to know?. This was so her daughter could get a free yorkie. This is the same lady who will charge for anything extra on the nails. Needless to say I don't go to her because of her prices. But I did tell her to save up and buy one like I did:mad: |
I agree! I am a student and I love my lil puffin :p (tehe that's Izzy's nickname) and I didn't have the money to pay a whole lot but enough to pay for a rehoming fee and some medical expenses. However, I was looking for a lil friend and I wasn't picky like other people. "She/He has to weigh this much and be this old." I also had to wait almost a whole year til I found the perfect baby for me. Some people think they'll put a ad online and someone will instantly find it. Quote:

Yes it does get to be annoying, but some people go through life like that. they are not TOO PROUID to ask for anything. Although I will say I did place one of mine at low cost to an family, but only after I asked a lot of questions. The family adores him and I get emails from her constantly. she had originally asked if I would reduce the price on one if it hadn't sold by 5 or 6 months. and she didn't care what size shape or color. she contacted me personally and explained their circumstance and was willing to wait. But to be placing ads and then describing the exact dog that they ared willing to ACCEPT :rolleyes: |
