Regonizing Low Blood Sugar (VIDEOS) Hey Y'all Im taking care of my sick girl so dont have time to write out what I would like to but wanted to throw these videos up in hopes of helping people identify low blood sugar as soon as possible and how to correct it. When she is feeling better - I will add more detail to the thread. I do hope this helps someone or some baby. I have a VERY strong southern accent which I tried to cover up by speaking slowly so y'all could understand me. So - I apologize in advance if you pick up on it and it henders your being able to understand me. I tried VERY hard to speak without it and feel I somewhat succeeded. PLEASE - watch these videos so YOU can know when your baby is in distress. I dont care if you have owned Yorkies for 100 yrs or 1 day - WATCH THE VIDEOS for the love of Dog! (spelled backwards! 'God'). :p We never know it all - learn something new everyday - so please take the time to view these as this IS A HUGE delimma with small breeds - especially Yorkies. |
Immediately after noticing and treatment: Consisting of 1 tsp of 'Nutrical' Dressing her as warm as possible because their core body temperature falls dramatically and quickly - thus needing to be dressed warm or put into blankets to raise pups core body temperature. Photobucket was quicker so I went there. VIDEO OF FIRST SIGNS OF LOW BLOOD SUGAR NatureSick.flv - Video - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting (Uploading More Videos) |
 Good video thanks for posting. |
I hope she is feeling better now, poor honey. I know you're struggling with this ongoing issue. Videos are always so helpful. I was wondering - how long did this episode occur after her last meal? I was also trying to remember if you've had a full blood panel done on her - I think you did after the last episode, is that right? Usually, pups outgrow hypoglycemia around 4 mths or so - so I wonder if there could be anything more going on here. It may just take her longer to outgrow it, but it might not hurt to get a blood panel - and/or bile acid testing. Have you tried feeding frequent meals too? She is so cute, btw. :) |
Whoa! I finally got them all uploaded. Sorry for jumping the gun in starting the thread but I thought they would just upload in 'manage attachments'. But! :p Here are the videos starting from IMMEDIATELY AFTER TREATMENT/REALIZATION/RECOGNITION OF HER SUGAR BECOMING LOW to here feeling all better! One hour later. The videos are all over the course of an hour. :animal-pa NatureSick.flv - Video - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting NatureSick1.flv - Video - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting NatureSick2.flv - Video - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Nature3.flv - Video - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Thank you YT'ers! I hope this helps someone! If so - almost worth it so thats why I tried to stay together and get it recorded. I wish I would have saw this BEFORE experiencing it the first time. :thumbdown |
Great idea on the video, I had no idea what it looked like but that would scare me too. I was so glad you reassured us that she had been given her Nutri-cal. :D Here's a link to things that could be causing hypoglycemic after a certain age, because this is something they usually outgrow. Toy Breed Hypoglycemia Bacterial infection, liver shunt, and other stresses can cause hypogleciama because they increase the need for sugar. I know Joey's breeder recommended free feeding till the age of 8 months to help prevent hypoglycemia, and he never had an issue with it. Thanks for posting, she's a real cutie. I think those last ones you posted are just pictures. Note they have a file name of jpg. |
Wow I just watched all the videos. Thanks so much for posting them! I wasn't exactly sure what to watch for but this helps tremendously! I hope your baby stops having these episodes soon. :( I know how scary that must be!! She is SO cute by the way!!! |
The last links are working now; I can't believe the difference in the forth video, looks like she's the type to use lots of energy when she plays. Love the jammies. |
Thanks Y'all - it wasnt easy keeping it together to do the videos. I was so worked up I was short of breath. It is very upsetting. Thank you for saying she is a pretty girl - she looks so beautiful to me I would be blind to any imperfections. She is my heart and soul! Anyone that doesnt have a Yorkie - isnt getting the love they need! :p I am HONORED by her presence - literally and feel blessed to have her just as with my real babies. Anyway - yes - she has had all her blood and other work done from the last episode. The Dr said everything looked fine - this is common - she should be over it at the lastest 8 months. If not - rerun everything and start over. She isnt due back for four months. She would then be 10 months old. However - if she has another episode between now and then - Im taking her in. Someone asked how long this was from realization to playing: ONE HOUR. I HAVE GOT to get my pool fence back up. We had a bunch of family over and hubby is out of town. I dont know how to mess with that thing. I wish he would have put it back up before he left. Curious? Is she LARGE or SMALL for 6 months? This could have a lot to do with it |
Very helpful. Cali had blood sugar issues until she was 8 months old. Completely outgrew it. |
Would anyone get mad if I posted just the links in 'General YT Talk'? I would like to let admin know they may absolutely use these video in making a sticky concerning low blood sugar. This is especially close to my heart because of the HORRID experience of her first episode. It was a freakish nightmare. One I wanted to save ANY AND EVERYONE FROM! |

To make a sticky, you can PM admin and link your thread, and if they feel that it will make a good sticky, they will do it. |
To avoid dual posts, let me move it to General - and then we can move it back here when needed. :) |
Awesome! |
Awwww what a cutie!!! I hope she feels better soon and stops scaring mommy! I would be terrified but thanks for posting and warning others... it was very nice of you while going through something like that yourself to be thinking of others! PS Your accent is adorable... :) |
