Staring Problem I've always wondered if this meant anything but my 3.5 year old yorkie (Ruby) will sit and stare at me for long periods of time. If i'm watching tv she will sit through shows just staring at me. Its not a dominance thing or that she wants something because she looks calm and content. She's cute but it can get a little weird after awhile haha. She also follows me every where, even if i go to the bathroom. My other yorkie (Bella) doesn't do it. Any ideas?:) |
I'd be curious to hear the responses because Stewie does the same thing... He gets right up in my face though and it litterally makes my eyes hurt he is so close..And he will not move. If I push him off of me or move him to the floor he comes right back... I just started staring right back at him and he eventually lays down...:) |
WOW!! Buster does the same thing but he stands up, gets very still and just stares. He just looks like he is staring into space sometime. I wonder what this could be, too? Are they daydreaming? Or just thinking (LOL)? I can't wait to see the replies. Everytime I go to the Vet I forget to ask. But, I'm sure someone will answer us here. |
Bobby does this too, I just figured he wants my attention, because sometimes he will whine. He follows me everywhere too! yep even to the bathroom. And if I lock him out, he waits for me at the door. Quote:

I'm laughing too because Chewie does the same thing. I will literally wake up in the morning with his snout in my face! It scares the crap outta me! The times when he's being good and quiet, he'll usually sit there and stare. I think they're studying us...conjuring up their next plan of attack, LOLOLOLOL! |
I think they want to please you so they look to you for approval and want to make sure if you move they are ready to follow |
Keely does this too! I thought i was spoiling her too much (shes always up in my arms) and she just wanted my attention, but apparently alot of yorkies do it too! |
Cash has been doing this too! Ever since I stopped working and am home during the day, he will come and sit with me and just stare into my eyes. If I make a sound, he will lick me until I am soaking wet. If I watch tv lying down, he lies on my chest and stares at me, for ever. It freaks me out a bit too. Since I have only been home for two weeks, I think he is trying to make sure that I am really here and that his eyes aren't lying to him. Ps. As I read this thread, he was sitting on my lap and when I laughed he licked me like crazy. Now he is lying on my arms as I type - very tricky. I guess he is just glad his mom is home:D |
My Grand-dog Mika used to do this, butI soon learned that for her it meant she needed to go potty, and she was looking at me like "Fool, don't you realize I need to go use it.":D |
LOL It took me a while to learn that with Emma too Quote:

My daughter laughs because Wiz will often look up at me adoringly for moments at a time . So cute . |
My yorkie has always done that-I think she's just waiting for me to want something. In bed, while I'm watching tv, in the kitchen, just doesn't matter she's always there staring at me! We got my daughter a yorkie about 6 months ago, and now when she's in school, both of the yorkies are at my feet staring at me in unison... |
They obviously love you all lots. Hugs Shirl x x |
Carmen following me everywhere too!!!!!! Where I am, she is. Even if I get off the couch for one second she hops off the couch too. If my husband comes to kiss me or talk to me, she has to be right in the middle of us. if we are sitting together she's in the middle, she also sleeps right in between us too! |
My hubby and the girls specially Melody play a game of staring at each other and the one that stop or give up wins:rolleyes: |
Sam does the same thing, he is always starring at me...thats if he's not sleeping...lol |
LOL! AprilLove does exactly this. She always stares at me until I lock eyes with her, then she knows its time to run to the toybox, grab her soccer ball and play catch, and throw, and catch, and throw. She will also sit and stare at me if I haven't talked to her for a few minutes ;) |
Lily does this too! she just stares or if im lying down she will stand on my chest and stare at me until i tell her lay down!!! lol also if me and my bf are in the kitchen preparing dinner or dishes or something and were not paying attention to her she sasses us! lol with a whine or squeal or some kind of noise! |
I always thought if a human stared at a dog, it is considered a threat to the dog. However, Suzi looks at me all the time, and i always think she is trying to get my attention, or is asking for something? It is very cute. Sometimes when i have stared at her, she will Jump on me fast, and give me kissess. :aimeeyork |
Blossom stares at me too; I thought it was because she wants to play. |

All three of mine do it. Sometimes three dogs following you every gets a frustrating cause then I have to play hopscotch with them if I have to change directions fast and they don't sense it or realize what is happening. They follow you because they love you and they are always seeking approval by getting petted and treats. As we all know yorkie's LOVE ATTENTION. I also think they can sense your moods. People say dogs don't have real brains or emotions. I say *BS* b/c mine always seem to know what to do if I am upset and they know if I am mad about something or they get excited when I get excited. THey may not talk through language but they use there body language to send us messages. People can think I am crazy if you want, thats just my opinion b/c I am really close to my dogs and I love them like children. |
That's really funny because my nine year old Jag does the same thing! It used to really freak me out, but now I would worry if we were hanging out and he didn't stare at me! ha ha He also is my constant shadow! Whether im cleaning house, cooking, getting ready for work... I look down and he is right there. Talk about having a friend that's always by your side.... you really couldnt ask for more!:) |
