Just to say Hello Hi, everyone - I'm a newbie, both on this forum and also as a Yorkie owner. I've always loved Yorkies, and have known many wonderful ones as I've journeyed through life, but until recently, have never owned one. Following the death 6 months ago of our beloved Collie / German Shepherd X, my husband and I both believed we could never have another dog. Six months later, we are the proud owners of Lucy (now almost 10 weeks old). My OH always owned 'men's dogs' (i.e. larger dogs) and truly was not sure about being Daddy to a YT - but Lucy's arrival has changed his mind - big time - and we've only had her a week! OH is 6ft 7ins tall (don't do new money) - and so Lucy is minute beside him, but he's so tender with her it melts my heart (and those of everyone who sees it). Lucy had to contend with meeting our 15 year old cat Fritz (who very definitely was not prepared for this tiny ball of fun). After 7 days, they're rubbing along together very nicely - Lucy knows not to push her luck, and Fritz knows that he has safe places to go when Lucy is feeling too boisterous for his liking. It's lovely now to see them eating together without any problems - but it's taken a week of solid effort before they began to 'bond'. Lucy's had her first vaccination, next one on Sept 4. She's attending a 'puppy party' organised by our vet, where pups of similar age & vacc status meet each other and socialise before they get to go out in the big wide world to meet other dogs - should be fun. I'm looking forward to posting on here - there seems to be a wealth of information available, and it'll be good to share with those who have experience of this wonderful breed. Hope to 'speak' to some of you very soon, Lesley x |
:yorkiesar Welcome to YT, keep us updated!! |
:welcome4: So glad to have you here! I'm sure you will be addicted in no time! Can't wait to see some pics! |
Hello and welcome from another new Yorkie owner. My situation is similar to yours it seems. My DH is also a big man, 6'3", and wanted a "manly dog", a Rottweiler... I wasn't sure he would bond very well with a little yorkie, but he has also fallen in love with our puppy, Mojo. They do look kind of funny when they walk together since Mojo only comes up to his ankle, :). DH kept telling me at first, "Get that bow out of his hair", LOL, and I'd tell him, "It's a ponytail, not a bow". I don't know how DH will feel this winter when I put some clothes on Mojo, though. I know I will try to dress him in camo so DH isn't too distressed over him wearing clothes. :D |
Hi and welcome to YT! :) |
Welcome to YT! :) |
HI. Yorkies tend to grab a hold of the big guy's hearts real fast. My hubby is 6 ft about 300 lbs and he was just cuddling our Yorkie and Chi. |
Welcome to YT. Can't wait to see pics of Lucy. Love the name, btw. |
Hello and welcome to YorkieTalk. We are glad you are here! |
This is to welcome you, your OH and Lucy also to Yorkie Talk. I can bet you will love it here. I joined in July and it is the single best thing I've done in a very long time. The people here are wonderful. They are very friendly and helpful! You will see this for yourself I'm sure. Good luck with your new baby. That's great what your vet's office is having a party for the little ones. I love it. |

Hi, Jokerman, and everyone else who has replied - my OH has definitely drawn the line at clothes - claims he wouldn't be seen dead with a YT kitted out in clothes! We shall see! Although I'm not personally one for dressing pups in frillies, a good waxed cotton jacket with fleecy lining is probably a must - otherwise, he'll just have to carry her all the time! I'm pleased to report that Lucy and our cat Fritz are building their friendship even more, which is not bad given that they've only known one another 9 days. Lucy is also incredibly good in the house-training stakes, too (touch wood), using paper at the back door and going outside as soon as it's open. I can hardly believe my luck. I really cannot wait to take her out into the big wide world. She already has a little walking harness, a car harness and a window grid for the car. She's surpsrisingly good in the car harness, after a little whimper she settles down quite happily and stops singing. I will post some photos when I can download them to my laptop - the lead has gone missing (I must check Lucy's basket!) Speak to you all soon, Lesley x |
