Thinking of gettin my mom a yorkie my mom had a yorkie for many many years when i was growing up but the dog sadly had to be put down...this was about 12 year and ive always wanted to get her one...my problem now is that we have a cocker spaniel...female bout 9 years old shes very nice and has been around alot of other dogs and lived with them also...but if i get my mom a baby yorkie would i have any problem raising it with the cocker spaniel? also would it be best to get a female or male yorkie based on which one will get along better with another female dog...thank you |

Hi and welcome to YT . I think the two of them will do fine. Just make sure the Cocker is fully use to the new arrival before ever leaving them alone together.. :aimeeyork I am from Concord Ca.... I miss the Bay area too. :animal-pa |

That's very sweet of you to want to do this for your mother. The important thing to find out is to make sure your mom wants a yorkie. It's a big committment as you know and sometimes isn't the best surprise. |

I have a 6 year old sweet boxer girl, and got my first yorkie ( 3 mo old) just last week. It took them half a day to fall in love with each other !!! I also have 3 cats, who took longer ( 3 days) but are already taking my Pix into their playtime. It's adorable to see them all getting along so well ! My only concern is about the boxer being so big and strong and she might unintentionally hurt Pix, but that hasn't happened so far. Bella, the boxer, thinks she is still a puppy and has those crazy times when she runs around the house in high speed , she could knock down an adult human ! Pix is getting aware of her own fragility, and is learning to stay at a distance from those moments and from our feet too.:animal-pa |

First off I'd like to say "Welcome to YT". Secondly I see no reason why they couldn't get along. I think either gender would be fine as long as they are supervised while they play and get adjusted to each other. Thirdly before you get a Yorkie for your mom I think its best to make sure shes ready for another one. It's not fair to your mom or the yorkie if she were to decide she doesn't want him/her. I wish you the best! |
