Butt scooting as a poo warning??? Does anyone have a baby who scoots their little butt when they have to go #2? Mya just had her anal glands squeezed last week (thinking that was why she was doing it) and still she scoots, and to my knowledge and (as of the vet visit last week) she doesn't have worms, I have checked her poo a few times to make sure and no abnormalities around the exit area :). So anyway, she typically does it when it's time for her to go #2, or when she has to go. She also does it to wipe her tush off afterwards (which i know is semi normal as I've seen other dogs do that) Let me know! Lauren and Mya Oh and when she scoots before, nothing is getting wiped off onto the floor, it's almost as if she doesn't know what to think of the urge to go that she feels haha |
You might be right that she is just a bit itchy or not sure what to do with the feeling but I know my DH (thank god not me) expresses her anal gland once a week. There may not be anything there but he at least tries that often. She used to do it quite often but now I never see her do it. If you have had her checked for worms and you clean out her anal gland regularly I wouldn't worry so much. |
She may just have an itch. Have you checked to make sure there is nothing stuck to her rear end? Sometimes they scoot around if they have something stuck back there. Duke scoots around a little bit for a few days after I have his anal glands expressed. |
Joey had this problem as a puppy, and the vet empties his anal gland, and told me that they normally empty by themselves when a dog poops, but some dogs don't push hard enough and the glands don't empty on their own. He showed me how to do it and what to look for. About once ever two weeks he would start scooting, and as funny as this looks it's not funny to them, and causes some irritation. For about the first 8 months of his life, he had this problem, but he outgrew it, and we haven't had any more problems with it. I think it's best if the vet shows you how to do it because if not done properly, contents can be pushed further up the canal and cause problems. The only other reasons for scooting I've read about are worms, and if their butts were shaved to closely it can cause irritation. If it's the anal gland, the area will look slightly puffy. |
She's probably doing it because her anal glands were just expressed. That's how it was with my Lillian-and she does no other time, except MAYBE when she's itchy. Sometimes they do it when they have too much poo stuck to their rear-gross, but true! :animal36 |
