What a horrible morning We had a close call with Layla this morning. She comes to work with us and we leave the door open to get a breeze in the office. Layla knows she isn't allowed outside the door and is OFTEN praised for not going out the door. Today a dog walked by (no owner) and she was gone. Barking and snapping and eveyrhting... we were SO lucky this was a nice dog or she would have been dead. I'm not sure we handled it well... everyone was yelling and screaming because we were afriad the dog would get her or she would run off and follow the dog.. and i think we should have praised her when she eventually did "come" but everyone was too upset. i put her in her crate. I'm just a mess... we came so close to disaster. Does anyone have any suggeestions on how to prevent this in the future? i want her to keep coming to work and come fall/winter all the doors are closed but we have a good month left of nice weather.. please please help. |

I am so sorry you had a scare this morning. Thank goodness everything worked out! Can you fit an X-pen in your office. When people come over and we ahve a lot of people waling around we put our little boy in his x-pen so he won't get stepped on etc. So far its' working out great and he loves it. He has a nice amount of space to run and play. |

How scary!!! I am glad Layla is alright, but I am sure it will take your heart a bit to slow down. How about a screen door?? |

Oh how scary! I'm glad she is alright but boy these little guys just don't get the FACT they are ONLY 100 lbs of ATTITUDE. |

 ... oh no how scary ... so glad she is alright ..... |

I would put up a screen door, maybe a nice storm door that you could take the glass our during the summer and put it back in the winter. Thank goodness Layla is ok. Hope you'll be ok soon. |

I've seen gates that look less like baby gates and more like a fancy railing that work for you. They are permanently installed and just swing open with a push on the latch. I think maybe dog.com or some other online site had them. Are you at a desk most of the day? Maybe you could keep her on his leash and tie it around your waist. Like a long flexi leash? I'm sure she would love to have to be close to you! |

I was thinking of the same type of gate....I will see if I can remember where I've seen them. I would like to get the same thing for my office and a screen door wouldn't go over well with my Broker.:) |

Maybe I'm nuts but...how about a play pen? I know that years ago, we had a smaller one for our daughters for when we traveled for DH's job...anyway just a thought. Good luck and I'm so glad that Layla is safe now!:) |

Glad that she is safe, I know it scared you almost to death. Hope you get the problem solved. |

You must've been terrified! Otis will run out the front door so I keep 2 panels of a plastic ex-pen in front of the door. It gives a little room so people can come inside and shut the door and I have time to pick Otis up before I move it for them to come on inside. What it really does is cut down on surprises. If anyone ever just walks in the door, I know Otis is safe and can't run out. It gives me a couple seconds to pick him up and then move the gate to welcome them in. Good Luck! I fear if that was Otis he would've been in the next county before he even looked back. |

Oh Marci! I am sorry the dolled up monster gave you such a scare... Bad girl Layla!! Good momma, I would put her in the crate too... I am glad she is ok! |

Oh my goodness:eek:Thank God nothing happens. Hope you get a solution quick but I wouldn't not take any more chances I'm a paranoid freak I think I would have her tie around my hip:rolleyes: |

I wonder if you could do the invisible fencing just in a doorway with a collar on her. I have never seen it done, but it might be an idea. There are also invisible tents that cover a specific area. They have a base in the building, and the dog wears a collar. I know a couple with two small dogs, and they said it works great. |
