Is two at the same time better than one?
 

Can someone out there Please talk some sense into me. I'm waiting to get my puppy and really getting serious about getting another one, so they can grow up together. Is this such a bad decision? I know it will be a lot more work for me, but are there advantages for their well being.
has anybody done this and enjoyed the experience ? I really enjoy watching two dogs together.:) but I dont want to be stupid.:(

Personally I would space getting them apart instead of the same time...to ensure puppy bonds with you....

I have three. Added one when the first was a year old, then another when the second was a year old.

It certainly helped with potty training...then again...I've been potty training a new puppy...for three years now. Maybe I wasn't as smart as I thought. :rolleyes:

ETA: Also just note..if you get two at the same time...your first year vet expenses will be doubled instead of spread out.

I've heard different opinions and I am sort of sorry I didn't get two at the same time. I am curious to hear what people think. I am considering getting a 2nd Yorkie now to be a companion to Bailey who's now a yr old.:animal-pa

I Kept 2 boys from Maggies litter and they are now 1 yr old. I wouldn't change them for the world. I read somewhere that they would bond with each other but I have come to the conclusion that it's a false statement. Dante is my mamma's boy. He worships me and will do anything to please me. Leo gives me nonstop kisses and they both cuddle up with me at bedtime. So the only advice from me to you would be if it feels right go for it.

Joey's breeder felt that spreading them out worked better too, as far as bonding with the human, I'm sure there are exceptions to the rule, but this rule has many believers. Will you be working? Are they going to be alone lots of the time, in this case I would definitely want two at the same time, even if it meant they would bond more with each other.

I got my Hoku at 10 weeks of age and two weeks later I got her half-brother Kalani at 10 weeks of age. Raising two puppies wasn't any more difficult than one and I loved that they had each other while I was at work. I wouldn't say that they are bonded more to each other as they are both very attached to me and spoiled rotten:D

Fang and Errol are brothers from the same litter. We're so happy we got them at the same time. It's really fun to watch them play together. We haven't had any problems with them bonding with each other or with us. They both have distinctive personalities, which we love. Good luck with your decision!

I kept both Beamer and Rainbow from Sunshines litter 17 months ago and I have to say they were so easy to train and they play together all the time. As for potty training, I have never seen two dogs easier to potty train together. We just took them outside about every two hours and they have NEVER had an accident in the house. EVER! And an added bonus.. since I kept them in an ex pen with potty pads until they were potty trained, when we take them on trips with us, they always use a potty pad in the motel room even though I don't use them at home anymore.

I got Chloe....she was so small. She only weighs 3.2 lbs grown. I could not leave her alone for more than 30 minutes at a time. She would stress herself out and be staggering around when I got home (hypo). I got Yorkie #2 Roscoe to be her friend and had no more problems with her. My only regret was that I didn't get them at the same time!!!!!! If you have the time to take care of the two and the funds to vet the 2 -- GO FOR IT!!!;)

Hi, I ordered from my breeder a female yorkie (my first), her name is Dixie and she is now 17weeks old. When I traveled to North Carolina from Virginia to pick her up my twin 19 yr old daughters asked my breeder if he happened to have any more yorkies that were not spoken for. Well he had a couple of males two weeks younger from a different litter and they were fortunate to purchase their little "Teddy". At first I thought this was going to be too much on me because my daughters both work all day and go to nursing school at nite and the most of the work falls on me but I gotta tell you it really isn't anymore work and they are the bestest of friends. They have always been together and neither have cried or been afraid away from us. I am so glad they got him. They are too! I have always felt kittens are best when purchased in pairs as well as puppies whenever possible. I also have two Bichon Frises that are 7 yrs old and they are sisters. I got them also from the same breeder that many yrs ago. They are wonderful high spirited little dogs. One of them has been too aggressive: with the puppies but we are working with them and as the yorkies grow some more I think in the end that they may all be great friends. I love little dogs. My bichons are about 17 pds each and the yorkies are about 4pds each. They go to the vet tomorrow for more shots and they are sure growing. I cannot believe how much they have grown and changed in the two months that we have actually had them. Just get two, you will be so happy you did, they will be great friends and never be alone. They are also so very much fun to watch and play with!!!:)
