Do you leave the collar on constantly? I was wondering if you leave the collar on all the time. My Ewok is 6months old now. It is not a choke collar. Just a normal one. |
hi , i leave a collar on honey all the time , its actuly a cat collar , i found they were softer i leave it on because i need to have a name tag on her all the time in case the little monkey runs off when i open the door x |
I never leave Maggy Mays on her, the only time she has it on is when I take her out to the potty, it's a harness, I don't use collars because it can hurt her trachea. |
My 2 wear a tiny cat collar with their names and my cell# embroidered on them. They do NOT have tags on these collars. Rebel got his tag hung in a floor vent last year and would've choked to death had I not been there to rescue him. Mine wear harnesses (or a dress for Lucy) when they're on leash. Never use a leash on a collar for a yorkie. |

2 Attachment(s) No collar here - ever unless leashed. But! That's because we have a screen lania around our pool. And because we do a full brush out at least 2 hours a day. Its part of our love and play time. Thus: She is on concrete only No bugs after the CHECK No fear of a hawk or other bird of prey swooping down and getting her. Its basically like a HUGE screened in patio the size of the entire back of the house. Here - I'll snap a few images real quick :thumbup: If not for this - considering all of the other things AND the fact that the ocean is literally viewable and IN my back yard: my girl would stay leashed when outside - ALWAYS. The lil babies get snatched up by hawks here ALL THE TIME! Very common. :thumbdown Here are a few pics so Ya'll can see what Im talking about. Its rainy and gloomy today from the Hurricane - sorry. She is all hyped up and acting crazy this morning so I included a shot of her. Finally - her gray hair is turning tan! Now though - the tan is so light it looks a little pink ha! :animal-pa DISCLAIMER: As we have people in town and have been cooking out and swimming - the child safety fence is currently NOT UP! When it is up - she comes and goes by herself out the doggie door. When its down - I take her and STAY WITH HER! Please realize the importance of child safety fences around pools - as I do. Mine simply isnt up because we have family all huddled together because of the hurricane. The water you see in the background is the Gulf of Mexico - the ocean. If I lived on the other side of A1A - it would be the Atlantic Ocean. The islands are only a mile long - if that. So - if she was playing in the yard and went into the ocean - the current would take her out into the ocean! Parish the thought! |

My Littlest Mac NEVER has a collar on and I would NEVER get one for him. He does wear his harness to go outside for potty or walks but that's the only times. :aimeeyork |
You should use a harness instead of a collar. Collar's can collapse the Trachea and they can also "hang" themselves if they jump and it catches on something. |
I do not use collars, even those with the "quick release - kitty clips". I make harnesses and collars and have the quick release buckles in stock. Because of the trachea/safety issue, I contacted the manufacturer of the buckles about the amount of pressure required to make the buckles fail (release) and was told that it takes approximately 4 lbs. of pressure. I put a collar together and did my own little test and although I have no way to measure the amount of pressure exerted to make the buckles release, it seems like it took quite a bit of force. I don't think that a small yorkie could possibly exert that much pressure without damaging their delicate trachea. I would like to add that each of us has our yorkie's safety and best interests in mind with our particular set of circumstances. Each of us must decide, using the information available what is the best way to keep our furkids safe. |

mine wears a coller part of the time,(its a cat coller) and the other part of the time he has it off, I know that might not make sence, but it depends on how many times we well be leavingthe house or going for a walk. but on the days that I know we will not be going anywhere. I leave it off. |
I have a collar on my yorkies. With my name and phone number on tags. I use a harness when I take them out though. Hugs Shirl x x |
