questions about my dogs interacting... I have a 1 1/2 aussiepoo (Henry) and a 5 month old yorkie (Teddy).. they are almost the same size, my yorkie is a tad bigger... anyway Herny wasn't all that happy when we got Teddy, but now the wrestle and play all day long... we have had him for a little over 2 months... I noticed a week or so ago that if a blanket is left out it gets a wet spot on it... I thought it was Teddy having an accident, but I realized it is Henry.. is he marking?!?! I also have noticed he sometimes looks sad... it maybe my imagination.... I try to make sure I love on Henry first then on Teddy, so he knows that he is still important... anyway what to do?!?! |
anyone?!?! I wonder if I should look into getting him fixed... we did with a cat we had and it totally changed his personality... Henry is starting to growl a bit too... any advicewould be appreciated... |
Sorry, I don't have a lot of experience with this. We've always had our males neutered as soon as they were able. I would think it would help with both the marking and the growling. Good luck. |
My guess is that that it is marking. Fixing him may or may not stop it |
Henry is taking on the role of the pack leader. He has to assert himself now because your yorkie is coming into his sexual maturity. Yes, henry is marking, and he is growling to let his "brother" know what the boundaries are. As long as your yorkie accepts his 2nd in line position, there probably won't be any trouble between them. When you give attention to Henry first you are acknowledging his dominance. If you follow the Dog Whisperer's philosophy, you need to establish yourself as leader of the pack. Exactly how you do that... well that depends on you and your dogs. Good luck. |
thanks Katelin... I just worry about them actually fighting... it hasn't happened yet... Just want to make sure I am on the right track with them... I have never had more than 1 dog at a time.... |

I would say that if you aren't planning on breeding them, which is what it sounds like, then you should have them fixed. It might reduce the marking behavior, but it will certainly make them less frustrated in other areas! |
I agree about fixing them too. |
Well, I decided to go ahead and get henry fixed.. :( he goes Fri morning... I feel for the little guy, but I think it is for the best!! |
