first post/barking Hi! This is my first time posting. I have a year old male 6.5lb Yorkie named Bailey, our first dog ever. He was unnamed the first two weeks we had him because we couldn't agree on a name. We were so pleased with ourselves when we finally decided on what we thought was a unique name, only to find out Bailey is the 4th most popular dog name! Oh well. We love our little Bailey boy! Bailey goes to work with my husband in a crate, which he loves. He runs to it in the morning because he knows he is going on a car ride and won't be left home alone. Once he's in the crate, he barks up a storm all the way to the car and for the first few minutes of the drive. Same routine when he is taken out of the car. It's ear piercing and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this and might have some advice on how to stop the incessant barking.:animal-pa |
I think you are not alone! I used the "coins in the can" technique to stop that annoying behavior. Just a suggestion! Good luck and welcome to YT! |
I have heard, that in order to teach a dog to stop barking is to teach it to bark on command, and then teach it to stop on command and reward it. then you will be able to use that command when ever you want him to stop barking. It's worth a try. |

Thanks. We use Barkbusters for training and they have a similar tool, little disc shaped pouches that are filled with something that when shook or thrown on the floor sound like coins. We used them in the beginning because it did stop the behaviors but we don't use them anymore because Bailey thinks they are his toys and grabs them and then a chase ensues:animal-pa. Barkbusters also recommends spraying water to stop a behavior, but when he's in the crate being carried to and from, that's a little difficult. |
