Freak out? Toby was chewing his plastic bowl and THROWING it around the apartment like one of his chew toys.... so...... i got him a new bowl, it is a ceramic one (i am giong to keep the plastic one for traveling, but keep his ceramic at home)...... the decision was between a metal one or ceramic, the metal one he could pick up in his mouth just as easy as his plastic one and the ceramic was heavier... so i went with the ceramic because he couldnt lift it or chew it to bits...... this is where the story gets interesting ...... HE FREAKED OUT!!!!! He wanted to ATTACK the bowl!!!! i dunno why, is it because he is upset that it wasnt HIS bowl??? or the fact that he couldnt throw it around anymore???? I dunno what the deal is...... it took a while to coax him to eat out of it, i had to sit right next to him while he ate!!! Are any of your yorkies like this when you change something as silly as a foodbowl???? because i thought it was a bit extreme on his part....... |
I think they are extremely protective of their 'stuff' at times and changes may take a bit to get used to. But once he realizes there is food in them there bowl and it's not dangerous, I think he'll be okay. |
When my Jess was a baby,we bought her some very shallow stainless steel bowls. It was to make eating easier for her and they worked fine:) But as she got bigger, the bowls seemed too small,so we changed then for some bigger, deeper stainless steel bowls. Well, you should have seen her reaction!! It was as if these bowls were huge ugly monsters, because all she did for the first day was bark at them!! She was nose butting them, barking, pawing at them..it was hilarious! It took her a while to eat and drink out of them without growling the whole time (lol) but she was fine after a couple of days:) Also,a few months ago I got a new feeding station (a wooden dog with the bowls in his back).Well, that was another ordeal! I think they couldent understand why their food was higher up and resting in the back of a very stiff looking doggie! lol. Both Lady and Jess went CRAZY with that one;) |
The same thing happened when I changed archie's bowl from plastic to metal. he attacked the metal one. So, then I got him a ceramic one and it took him a while, but he got used to it. then I put the metal one down, too, which has his water and dry food. I think the best thing to do is use both bowls, and start putting more food into one than the other gradually until you don't need the plastic one anymore... |
Oh My! That is too funny! I will be changing my dog's bowls soon here. She really needs a bigger water bowl. I have the small plastic one with the two holes in them, one for food and the other for water. Glad I read this on here, so I can be prepared for a reaction. Gosh! They are such different dogs. Every day something new comes up, it seems! |
:) I think it is because they see their reflection in the stainless!! ;) I really prefer them and we also use little clear glass "salsa" dishes for Toto. Maybe I prefer them because that little 1/8 cup of food looks like more to me!! :D I also like stainless and glass because you can put them in the dishwasher! |
That is quite funny, I had a visual on Toto doing this. Oh, how they keep us laughing and well guessing at their behaviors at times too. Schatzie and Annabelle share the same metal drinking dish. Schatzie's food bowl(s) are a doggie ceramic (really really cute from the dollar store) and a small metal one. These babies sure keep us smiling!! :p |
I love the Dollar Store! I have found more things for my dog there than anywhere. Her favorite toy is a cat toy I bought there. It has a ball on a rope tied to a plastic wand. She chases it like crazy. It had a feather on it, but we took that off. She will sit and bark at you to play with it with her. Cost all of a Dollar! |
