How high can a Yorkie jump ? Now, after reading the question, you all know how a beginner I am with yorkies ! I always had boxers and some toy poodles, but never a small pup like my sweet Pix, now 12 weeks old. We are having lots of fun, but I am constantly concerned about her being so fragile, and I never leave her in the sofa or bed unattended because I know she can get hurt easily if she falls. How high will she be able to jump safely when she grows up? Will she be able to get down from a regular bed without a " middle step" to help? What about jumping from floor to sofa? Thanks in advance !!!:aimeeyork Ana |
I beleive that depends on her size as an adult.. My Hopey is 5 lbs. She cannot jump on or off the bed without a "middle" step but she can get on and off the couch. I keep an ottoman at the foot of my bed and it works great for all my pups... NOW, Tootie, well, he is 16 lbs, and has no problem jumping on the bed, even my daughters very high antique... he jumps up to the window on the door everyday when I drive up... its like ODIE in the house.... bouncy.... lol |
My 5 mo old , 3 lb Yorkie kept jumping on/over my 24 inch gate so I had to get a higher gate! |
Bobby is 14 months and is 8 lbs. He jumps off my bed, the couch, off the stairs, my lap. He is a crazy little guy. He also can jump to the height of my chest! I think its because he is bigger though. |
I think it all depends on their structure... Gizmo is 11 lbs and he has no problems getting on bed, couch, table, etc. Gypsy is 4.5 lbs and is extremely agile, she's a bullet.. She also gets on the couch, with the help of the ottoman gets on my bed and jumps off it without the help of the ottoman, she's something else... And then there is Nygee 5 lbs... She needs my help for everything... She's not agile at all... She barks to go on the bed... She barks to get off... She's completely dependant of me in every way... But thats what I'm here for! 1 out of 3 is not bad at all!! |
I have found that often times the height that a Yorkie *can* jump is a direct result of how badly you scare it. |
Baxter is 5 lbs and kind of long legged. I have a high poster bed, and he can jump up there. He can jump about 2 1/2 feet I guess. When he jumps off the couch he looks like he's flying. He sails through the air before he hits the ground. It used to scare me, but there's no stopping him. He's wild. |
My Angel is right around 5 lbs with slightly longer legs. She is a major jumper. We have a high bed and she has problem jumping us there!! If you are standing still, she will jump from the ground into your arms. We think she has springs built into her legs!!!!!! I try to discourage her jumping, but it hasn't done much good!!! |

My two are 6 and 11 lbs and they have no problem jumping on the cough or bed. The funny thing though even as big as they are they have never tried to jump out of the xpen. I always read these stories on here of small pups jumping out of their xpen and thats never been a problem for me |
We have a ramp up to our bed and a set of doggie steps up to the couch. I'm hoping Katy Lou will not try to jump off the bed until she gets bigger. So far she has only done it one time and limped on her left paw for about one minute. Vet said she was fine. She has never tried it since, thank God. She likes to jump up and down when excited too. I discourage it as much as possible because I don't want her to hurt her knees. She scares me. LOL |
Pepper is almost six months old and weighs a little over 3 lbs. He can't jump up or down off bed or couch. I need to get him some steps. :D |
