Big Talker... Deegan thinks he's this rough n' tuff lil' man... When I take him out for walks and he sees another dog sometimes he's fine and will walk by without a peep, but then other times (especially when the other dog doesn't seem to be interested in him) he flips out!!! Goes crazy barking, pulling & growling! It's like he's offended that the other dog didn't acknowledge him. It's embarassing and I don't know how to stop it. Tonight for example we went for a walk and there was this guy that rollerbladed by with his doberman & black lab and Deegan went nuts!!! I tried controling him by correcting with his leash, by using a firm voice & then I finally picked him up to cover his muzzle and he just kicked and scratched me all to hell trying to go after these dogs that would eat him like an after dinner mint! I just don't know why it's some dogs, not all... and I don't know how to correct it! I wish I could get Cesar Milan to come to my house. Any suggestions? |
I don't really know what to tell you to help but sounds like he's got some aggression issues.. I would try walking on the opposite side of the street (from other dogs) and continue the stern "No" and not give him too much "leash length" Fortunately, my Daisy's a wimp around other dogs. I hope someone else can help you with this! Good luck! |
What classifies as "aggression"? He doesn't seem like he's is once he gets a chance to meet the dog... He's very playful and excitable, but has never been in a fight or tried to. It's like he doesn't want them to go without saying hi or bye. |
My two do the exact sme thing, specialy Apollo, realy embarrassing, i know..Apollo scared the h%$# out of me a few days ago, a lab was loose and we where walking, Apollo jerked so hard he snapped his 29 pound flexi leash in half, i realy thought he was a goner, he was nipping at that Labs hind legs before i was able to pick him up, thank god that dog must of been good natured as he only snapped at him and went the other way...my knees where shaking for hrs after that...mine love playing with my daughters half lab...they only do this when we are walking :confused: |
Our dogs will bark sometimes and not others too. I can tell you what a trainer told us to do. When they start barking, change directions and walk a different way and if they bark again, keep changing directions. She said you might be walking in circles for awhile and not get very far, but they will get the idea! |
