Can it be??? My yorkie does not like treats!!! :confused:HI! I am so puzzled. i have had my little guy for three weeks now. i have given him all kinds of treats bc he doesn't like any of them, so i keep buying new ones trying to find some he likes. so far, i have tried lives ones, peanut butter treats, chicken treats, and apples, carrots and his kibble. he takes them, licks them for one second, and them walks away as if i just gave him poop! BUT, he likes to eat poop! just not treats! i often have to pry him away from his poop bc he loves it! i feed him nature's variety raw and he loves that too but i can't give him that for treats. now i am starting to wonder if maybe i am spoiling him too much with the raw food bc b4 the raw food, he loved treats! i am so confused. should i switch back to kibble? i was using eukanuba but i don't want to use that anymore. can anyone reccomend a different brand of food (kibble) and some irresistable treats for picky eaters??? he is 18 weeks old. sushi and i thank you all so so much! |
My boyfriends dogs are the same way. They eat their food like it is a treat. We feed Canidae All Stages. They seems to like the turkey jerky that we get at one of the feed stores. It is organic and they just love them. |
Yorkie Yummies! A bit of cheese. Some cooked turkey hot dog. Pupperoni. Simon and Hueys soft training treats. Wellness Well Bites. Pill Pockets. Yummies are the only "hard" treat that my girls will eat. They prefer the softer treats. I find that fruits and vegies are an acquired taste, neither Gracie nor Holly liked them when they were little. |
your puppy is too cute & funny. the breeder i got my baby from fed him Eukanuba too. i switched him to Innova, which he really likes. He tried Canidae wet food and LOVES it. I tried the Blue Buffalo kibble (from petsmart) and he doesn't touch it. basically he looks at me like i'm crazy whenever i put it in his bowl. Treats-wise. . .bits of cheese have worked, liver (although u said u used that), cheerios, bits of cooked chicken. Good Luck! yorkies definitely have their individual likes & dislikes. i just smile & roll with it. |
Sophie doesn't care for treats either. They seem to upset her tummy when she would eat them. We found the chicken jerky that she looooved but we have found that she can't tolerate poultry. I finally found some Loving Pets Gourmet lamb treats that she really really likes and they don't upset her tummy. I guess you would call it lamb jerky. lol |
No dog can resist Cheweez!! Made by Alpo(I know a crappy brand) 1 will last forever(even though they come with a box full) They are big but you can take it away when he stops chewing and give it back to him when he does something good, or if its just treat time! My 16 wk old yorkie doesnt like treats either, but she LOVES chewies. And Marrow bones. Crappy brands in my opinion, But if she like them im not going to say no to them..lol |
Life's Abundance. Mine go nuts over it!!! I sell it and feed it, and they love it, but when I first introduced it to them...WOW! They went CRAZY! Even my picky eater Brodie....he went nuts...it was pretty funny!!! You can check it out in my signature below. I also sell treats from them too! Quote:

Don't worry about it . I actually have 2 pups that don't like treats at all . |
Tucker is super picky about treats, too. He really dislikes biscuit type treats. So far the only treats we have found that he goes nuts for are Dogswell Jerky Treats. They are all natural and you can get them in chicken, liver or duck. They are even available at some Targets! Good luck! |
Try Yorkie yummies, yogurt drops and mini snausages snawsomes (beef and cheese flavor) Probably not the BEST treat but they are their favorite ones. GOOD LUCK! Carson is EXTREMELY picky and he LOVES all of the above. |
Lulu hates treats. she would rather chew on her bone. |
You need to have him try the yorkie yummies that chattiesmom makes or the Diggy treats Diggys mom makes. Mine are super super picky wont eat any dog treats I mean none and Ive tried alot but they will eat the yorkieyummies and diggy treats. |
I feed Eukanuba Yorkshire but after reading all this maybe I should rethink that and switch to another food. My Yorkie came from a no kill shelter after the breeder released her at the age of 4. She had never had a treat before so she didn't even know what to do with a milk bone when I gave it to her. The only treat she really likes is Canine Carry Outs Chicken Grillers. The foster mom at the no kill shelter found that out and passed it on to me when I adopted her. She does love them! |
I'm having the same issue, It was training him to sit a bit difficult.I've got a closet full of different types of treats that he just sniffs at and then walks away. Last night I've even tried small bits of cheese, but it upsets his stomach. Last night I was eating goldfish crackers and he went crazy for them, so we were finally able to tackle the sit command, but I'm sure they are probably really bad for him, so i am still looking for a doggy treat that he will like... Where can I find Yorkie yummies, I keep reading about? |
My mom's dog is the exact same way, she has tried everything for treats.. |
WOW! thank you! ok, i am ready to try some of the new treats. i am excited about the yorkie yummies but where can i get them? by the way, the only reason i want him to like treats is because i am training him, so i need some kind of reward. he responds really well, but i need to use the reinforcement... thank you again, i have so many options to explore! |
My boys love Zukes mini naturals. They are ensie tinsey little things. They are wonderful for training treats. You ought to take a look Zukes Mini Naturals – Dog Training Treats, The Perfect Training Treat for Dogs |
kioko was the same way...but since i found toy temptation organic treats..he can't get enough...also puperoni is also a big hit here...hehe |
My Romeo is picky too! But he wants whatever I have in my mouth! So now when I introduce a new treat I act like I'm eating it and he starts eating it too! I had to do this with his food and on a couple of occasions because he just wouldn't eat!! even chewed up some of his dry food:eek: I know disgusting but it worked! I learned the trick of making it seem like you're eating it so they eat it from a good show called "Your dog or me" on Animal Planet. |

I had the same issue with Scooter when we started training. After lots of frustration, our trainer recommended buying the rolled dog food (PetsMart and Petco carry for sure, as well as many others). It comes in a giant roll and I just thin slice it like it is cheese. Once it is in round slices, I further cut it into little bite size pieces. They have treat rolls too but the trainer recommended only buying the dog food rolls because then they are eating food instead of filling their little tummies with junk. There are several different flavors. Scooter liked any kind. Plus, while training, one of those rolls provides weeks of treats (if you buy the big ones). PetCo sells roll covers that fit over the end of the big ones so you can store it without a plastic bag. I used the rolled dog food for both the puppy classes and the intermediate classes and they worked great. I still buy one from time to time because he considers them special treats. Other than that, Scooter loves the Wellness brand Puppy and Jerky treats. I also reward him with a bully stick when he behaves for extended periods. |
My Suzi is quite picky too. It is frustrating because i have all these extras for her, and she does not like em... Her favorite though is Pup Peroni .I buy the leen beef recipe . She rather have a little Yogurt, ice cream, cheese, or popcorn. :D |
