Need Your Opinions/Insights... I recently returned from an appointment at my Veterinarian to get the Quad Squad's pedicure. Keep in mind that this is a new Veterinarian that was hired to assist with my usual one. Well, long story short, I received a raised eyebrow and speech on not having my babies vaccinated yearly. :eek: All my pet ownership life I have been an advocate of only vaccinating every three years coinciding with rabies after the first year of puppy shots. And, my regular Veterinarian's up to this point never had an issue with it either. :mad: So, I ask...What is your feelings/thoughts on this? Do you vaccinate yearly? Why or why not? |
Yep always, especially parvo because, know so many people that have loss there pets here of that:( also parvo is high risk on this area and that virus can last years in the ground , also lyme because I have seen first hand on one of my dear friends, and kennel cough too because my babies goes to doggy playdates and don't want to take any chances of my babies jmo;) they get all the necessary vaccines they need through the year and rabies here in Cali is a "Most have" in order to get your Lic:aimeeyork |

Thanks a bunch yorkiesmiles! I'm still both shocked and infuriated by the speech I got yesterday...I just don't understand why much less when the need to vaccinate annually came about. :confused: I mean I'm all for tittering but GEEZ... We don't get inoculated on an annual basis! And, these little ones are not like large breeds! Many are house broken to piddle pads, kept mainly in house and under foot. :rolleyes: |
i feel that we are over vaccinating if we do it yearly. I am not planning on vaccinating yearly ( ive only had my puppy 2 weeks) but i will vaccinate every 2-3 years. |
I do vaccinate yearly and I don't say anything bad about people that don't, to me it's your personal choice. I guess I do it yearly because that's what I've always thought was the right thing to do & you hear everywhere that dogs/cats need their yearly shots. I'm glad that I do get mine vaccinated yearly because the Chihuahua we got recently came down with parvo, if my pets were not utd on vaccinations they could have gotten it too. |
Save yourself the frustration and only make appointments with the other Vet. It sounds like you have an understanding with him already. :) |
My dogs are not vaccinated yearly. I do not want to over vaccinate my dogs. There are some great books out about the problems of over vaccinating, like:  Amazon.com: What Vets Don't Tell You About... and Amazon.com: Stop the Shots!: Are Vaccinations... More is not always healthier! |
No, I don't vaccinate yearly. We do titers and may vaccinate every three years. I believe it does far more harm than good. If the vet is that concerned you could do titers. Dr. Ronald Schultz and Dr. Jean Dodds are the experts on this and I don't see them saying to do it every year. If we knew exactly what happened with over vaccinating, it might not be so bad, but we don't and it is possible that it causes some very serious diseases like anemia, cancer and autoimmune disease. And to think of the adjuvants in those vaccines for one minute makes me want to stop giving them altogether. It is truly horrifying. Study and use the schedule you are comfortable with. Maybe compromise with your vet. Please don't let someone else force you to do something you know isn't right. |
My vet recommends every 3 years too. |
