Attacks Feet I am at my wit's end! MacKensie is 3 1/2 months old and is really well behaved. We are taking her to puppy class at Petsmart & has learned everything they taught us very easily it seems. However, it seems to happen every day, mostly outside in our yard, that she runs around (which is good exercise I know) but when we are with her she runs and attacks & bites our feet, ankles or legs with those POINTY, SHARP TEETH THAT DRAWS BLOOD! We just can't get her to stop. Saturday I was bleeding big time. I have tried the coin can, spray bottle with water, spray bottle with water & white vinegar, nothing stops her. I read spraying Listerene might help. Does anybody have any suggestions? How long does this last cause patience is running real thin! I'm hoping when her baby teeth are gone (that could be a loooong time) & all the puppy habits are over this will stop. I wanted this dog as a pet not an attack dog! I am feeding her Innova which is only 1/4 cup like the bag says for her weight & she always seems hungry. I do give her vanilla yogurt between meals sometimes but not everyday. Could this be the reason for this behavior, although she will attach even after she has just eaten. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |
My 7 mo old Lexilyn does the same thing. She growls and latches on to our shoes or pants, whatever she can get while you try to walk. She only does this to myself and my husband. It used to be really cute & my husband played along. I tried to correct her but it became a game. Now when she starts it, I put her on her leash and hold her away while we walk until she forgets about it. It hasn't completely stopped her but hopefully she'll outgrow it. You're right, those teeth hurt!!! |
Try some bitter apple sprayed on your feet. My Katy learned after a couple times that she didn't like our feet after all. LOL |
Tried Bitter Apple & did not phase her! |
Shayna did that has a puppy I just keep telling her "NO" and I will make sounds like it hurts and she stop doing it!! :aimeeyork |
I think they will eventually grow out of it. Teddy used to bite my arms, fingers, legs, and feet. What I learned works for him is to stoop down to his level and say "NO" is a loud and stern voice. He looks at me shocked and backs off. I've been doing that now for awhile, and he hasn't done it anymore. (However, this is in regards to him biting my clothes when I got dressed) The actual biting of feet etc he actually grew out of. |
Lucie did this when I first got her (still does to people who let her) she never made us bleed, but it took a couple days to get her to finally stop. She saw feet as something that moved for her to play with  she goes after hands too. We just kept telling her NO! and then would pick her up and move her away until she stopped. She still tries chasing my mom around biting at her slippers, but my mom allows her to.. Try giving her a stern No, and move her away from your feet. |
Kayla does the same thing. She will grab my fingers and shake and growl. She has bit me several times that really hurts. We have tried the stern NO but she will look you right in the face and I have had her jump in my face and try to bite my nose. She is a year old now and I wonder when its going to stop. I have even folded up a piece of paper to swat her on the butt and it doesn't bother her a bit. She will grab the paper and run with it. I know how you feel. I thought that was the reason for leaving them with their littermates and mom until she taught them how hard to bite. Kayla was 13wks. old when we got her. You would think???? |
they say make a sound like it hurts and stop play immediately and put her in a short time out or dont pay attention to her. seen this on tv as well seem to work. |

i saw this on tv too and our trainer advised us to do this. it works but u have to be consistent with it. they think it's a game. Tell them "no" or do a squeal so they know it hurt and then put them up & ignore them for a bit. everytime the puppy does this repeat that. they will get it eventually. |
Leo used to do this all the time- bite feet, slippers, hands.. wtv He eventually grew out of it even though my mom continued to let him bite her slippers daily..lol |
