Does your Yorkie get car sick? This past weekend I had to take my Alfie out with me twice. I have kept him in my home every day since he came home. He was just 4 weeks when he came to live with us and to protect him we have kept him in and all that is involved with having a Young Yorkie Puppy. This weekend was my Daughters 9th Birthday so we had two little get togethers with the families, Saturday and Sunday. I couldn't leave Alfie alone at the house for hours because I felt that he isnt use to it because someone has been with him now everyday all day for the last 3 1/2 weeks since he came to live with us. I bought him a little cushined carriers that we used to take him home in and seat belted him in just the same when we took him home. Each time he is in the car he has been sick. No crying, or anything.. just vomit and then he seems to be fine. Will he grow out of this...:( is it that he is in the carrier... should I be giving him something first? He is almost 8 weeks now... at first (on the way home, first time in the car... that it was because he was so young and nervous)... but now he knows us very well.. and it 4 times the size he was then. Any ideas? |
Sorry, I can't help you there. :( My yorkie has never gotten car sick. She does very well in the car. |
I have one that is prone to car sickness. From the suggestions here on YT, I use 1/4 of a "Bonnie". Works great for Deuce, but he's 10 mos. and about 7 lbs. Check with your vet for your little one on a dosage. Some on here recommend ginger snaps, but they didn't seem to do the trick for my Deuce. Good luck, that certainly no fun for you or the baby. |
Thanks for the advice.. we have an appointment tomorrow for his first shots so maybe he will suggest something... I just feel so bad. Alfie is so happy all the time... but in the car its like he is drugged he gets so not like himself. :( Quote:

I think that it is from being in the carrier. Just as in humans, line of sight is very important when you are moving. Once I got Hot Rod is snoozer car seat, he was fine. He got sick 2 or 3 times when I had him in a carrier riding. You could also try giving your little one half of a ginger snap cookie about 1/2 hour before riding. That should help also. Good luck. |
Thanks.:D I saw a thread earlier about Pet Car Seats. I think I may look into finding one tonight.. it seems like a good investment... I thought I was doing the right thing with his little carrier and straping him in.. but the motion must be too much for him. Quote:

Cooper Gets sick too. He used to love to ride when he was little. Then he started getting sick. The other day my daughter was getting some stuff out of her car and she had Cooper on his leash. He saw the door open and sat right down and puked. It was sooo pathetic.... I miss taking him with me. I still do sometimes and then once he gets to my dads or where ever he is usually ok. I have tried Rescue Remedy... it sort of works but not for any length of trip for us but every dog is different just like people. I am going to try the ginger snap thing this week when I get groceries. And if that doesn't work I will try the Bonnine. Good luck. |
Oh poor little Cooper... :( ~ I will have to try the ginger snap thing tomorrow.. and then whatever else may be needed.. I wont leave him home when we vacation.. we put off going anywhere this summer because he was so young.. but this winter I plan on weekend trips at least...... I hope he starts to like it. Quote:

Max loves car rides, and does not get sick, but now, the boat is another story:eek: |
Sam shakes just alittle then after awhile he is fine. |
Baxter is 7 months old. When I first got him he would ride in the carrier, and his view was pretty obstructed. Just as soon as we would get going he would vomit then frothing at the mouth. After a few rides I realized that he wasn't going to be okay with it so I let him ride in the front seat with me out of the carrier and he was much better. He still doesn't like it, but he just lays his head on my arm and sits on the console. Hopefully as he gets a little older things will get better. But, for now I don't make him ride in the carrier. We don't go that far anyway. |
Jewels gets sick and the rescue remedy works for her |
Bella Shakes Bella used to be fine when she was very young, but since she was about 4 months old (she is 10 1/2 months now) she shakes, so badly that sometimes I think she is just going to fall apart. She also pants with her tongue hanging out and giving her water doesn't help. After awhile she goes to sleep and does pretty good. But the first half hour to 1 hour is bad. I think it is anxiety with her. But she doesn't vomit thank god. At least not yet.:animal-pa |
My Lhasa Poo got sick no matter what. We had her 10 years and only the last couple months could I put her in the car and not have her throw up or drool like crazy. When she was young we took her yard saleing and thought the short rides would get her used to the car. Nope! We had to stop and buy some baby receiving blankets to sop up all the drool in the car and on us. I don't know what changed in the last few months of her life, other than I lost weight and she could sit on my lap and look out the window. The Yorkie we have now loves car rides, we have the snoozer carseat/bed for her and she gets mad if you leave without her. |
Baxter usually throws up when we go to the vet. Only on the way home. If we go any where else, he's fine. |
