Question about washable pee pads?
 
I am thinking about going to the wasable pee pads but was wondering, Will he start to pee on everything in the house if I use this type of pad? I dont want him to get confused about what is his pad and a towel or shirt laying in the floor. I already have a bad enough problem with him wanting to mark everything. I dont want him to just out and start full blown peeing on everything. What are your experiences?

For my boys I just take a empty detergent jug and fill it with water in sit in the the middle of the pee pad and they are very good about going there. For some reason males just like having something to hike their leg on. Of course, if a male is already marking they are likely to continue unless you are there to correct them. Boys can be very stubborn.

Wow! That's a great idea....I hadn't thought of that. I have one pup that always has to have the pee pad by the wall or the puppy gate or a doorway....all of which are very inconvenient. What do you clean the detergent jug with to keep it free of pee smell?

GREAT IDEA. Can't knock it over - & it's plastic. simply igenious. = ) I think I'll try it out right now. I have one boy that squats and lift one hind leg when using the peepad.... i think he's trying so hard to "be good". LOL This may just make his day!

The jugs don't really get too icky because the pee just runs right off them and onto the pad. You can just wipe them off or throw them away and get a new one every now and then. You could use any kind of jug, just make sure it has a screw on lid. They do sell doggy fire hydrants for that purpose that are cute but jug will serve the same purpose, just not as decorative.

I'm finding that if you are using pee pads you can't keep any throw rugs in the house. I took mine all up and I hope as Katy gets older she will be able to tell the difference. She occasionally goes outside with the other dogs. I don't mind because I have all tile floors and it is so nice to not have to hurry home to let her out when I am gone for any length of time. Maybe in time I may come to regret it but for now the pads are a convenience.

I have not had any issues with my girls getting confused. The know where to go based on "feel" of the pad as well as location.

What a great tip, I love this idea; I think it would also help them distinguish pee pads from other throw rugs.

I do this with a coke bottle, I wrap the bottle with a pee pad it works great for keeping things on target. He knows the throw away pads are his to mark but if I change to the clothe will he start to think anything cloth is his?

I have this issue actually, I use the washable pee pads and they tend to go on any throw rug or carpet at free will. Well, one of them anyway. Bella is better about it but Coco is just a random pee'r and will go where ever she pleases.. she is over a year old now .

I guess it is best if I just stick with the disposable ones. I just thought it would be cheaper in the long run. I do like to be able to just throw them away and not have to worry about it.

I use washable pads and had no problems with my furkids peeing all over the place. I have area rugs in my family room & dining room and they do not potty on them. I also used disposable pads and thought they would get confused when I started the washable pads but since I have one designated area where they potty they know they have to go there. My male also squats so I have no problems with him marking. I got lucky because after he was neutered he stopped marking and hiking his leg, he will however hike his leg on a tree if outside but not in the house.

How old was your male when you had him neutered? I am about to neuter Dusty but he is 2 1/2.
