What to put into a playpen? So i got all my stuff..i'm so excited..i'm going to have Charlie in a couple of hours. But anyways..What should i put in there? Cause i'm getting mixed messages.. Does the food, bedding, crate, pee-pads and toys go in there? Someone told me not to put the pee pad..but how is it going to relieve itself when i am away at school for a couple of hours? I'm getting super confused...Can you guys post pictures of your play pen so I get a general idea?? Thanks!!! |
I have Pepper's crate, toys, food, water and pee pee pads in his x-pen. It works great for us. |

I think of the xpen as a little room where everything is safe. They have food and water and beds or crate and pee pads, but nothing that they can use to hurt them selves like wires and cords. Some people use a bathroom as an x pen, but dogs don't like the closed doors, and this works better with some sort of gate instead of a closed door. With an xpen the dog can be kept near the family when they are home, but still in a safe place when they can't be supervised. Best of luck to you and Charlie! |
We used an x-pen, and put a waterproof crib sheet down on the floor in case the water spilled or in case of an accident off the pee pad. I covered that with a soft blanket-that way, I could change out the blanket and wipe off the waterproof sheet, and once a week I washed both. I have heard of some people using a shower curtain on the floor with a twin sized fitted sheet to come up over the bottom corners of the pen-that would work well too! We put in a heavy bowl of water (as it's harder to tip over), a soft blanket or bed, a pee pad, and a few toys. Make sure NOT to put a crate in there-they can get on top and climb out of the x-pen. Also, make sure your puppy isn't a climber-that defeats the purpose of the x-pen. |
R U using a play pen or an X-pen? The x-pen is great b/c you can put it all inside...I attached the x-pen to each side of the crate....made more room then put the pee-pads on one side of the pen and the food/water on the other...When KiKi was a puppy and training...I put a plastice sheet across the entire floor inside the xpen..to protect my floors...Good luck...can't wait to see pictures!! |

I got Scooter's x-pen at Walmart. I ordered it online because they had more options and it arrived at my door a few days later. They are great. I highly recmmend using it. I have a large openning to my kitchen so I don't have the pen doors closed...I have it open and basically blocking the doorway. The greatest thing about the x-pen is that it allows me to expand it s he actually gets a large section of the hallway and living room as weel the way I have it set up. I think you will like it. |
Thanks:) I'll get mine tomorrow |
LOVE, love our x-pen! I would leave the food & water in there w/the puppy, some do better than others when they get to their new homes so you wouldn't want to take a chance of him getting hypoglycemic the first few days-also for the first two weeks regan would nibble at odd times on her food but she wouldn't eat unless I hand fed her. Congrats on your new baby |
