How much should he be eating? Hi y'all! My Barnaby is just about 6 months old now, and his feeding habits have changed quite a bit over the last couple of months. He really only seems to want to eat once a day (I put food out in the morning, he has little interest, only wants to go for a walk and then play with me for a while before I go to work) then I leave it for him in his pen until I get home in the evening (or change the food if I make it home in the afternoon for lunch, which I try to do as much as possible.).But most nights, he only wants to eat after walking and playing a LOT after I get home (I've never been so tired, but on the upside, have lost 10 pounds!), and basically chows down around 9 PM. He seems happy, he doesn't whine with hunger, he pees and poops on a nice regular basis, and he is certainly NOT lethargic, so I guess that's OK. I know Yorkies aren't supposed to eat much. But just wondering if this sounds fairly normal? Thanks in advance for any advice and comments! :-) |
I free feed Sam dry food and in the morning and night he gets about a teaspoon of yogurt..:animal36 |
My Diddy is 6 months too and seems to be very much like your guy with his eating. He is only interested in eating his kibble once a day too. |
I don't think feeding your pup once a day is a good idea. I feed Rocky twice a day with snacks in between. Snacks contain either Yogurt, Fruits, or cottage cheese. He does eat in big portions. |
I do not choose to feed him once a day he chooses to eat once a day. He is not food motivated. I am at home all day and his kibble is always available and we walk twice a day but alot of times he is not interested. He will eat fruit sometimes but today didn't want banana which he seems to like. He poops twice a day and pees regularly. |
My puppy doesn't eat much at all either. He'll be five months old Sunday and weighs four pounds. He mainly only eats a little dry food at night, and usually I have to coax him to eat what tiny bit he eats by hand feeding him. He is very healthy and extremely active, he just doesn't eat much at all. I measure his food so I will know and he rarely eats more than 1/4 cup in a 24 hour period. I leave food down for him at all times. I rarely feed him any other food, hoping he'll eat his dry food. I use one tiny treat broken into tiny pieces for training purposes. One quarter cup of dry food doesn't seem like much food for a four pound puppy, but I've only had him two weeks so I don't know what is normal for a Yorkie puppy. |
Peanut eats whenever he is hungry, drinks whenever he is thirsty. I can count on one hand how many times a day. Now he's a little bit sick so we monitor him 24/7. Yorkies have tiny stomach, they eat little. |
Shelby is 10 mths old now and has been eating once a day since ive had her.... her food is available 24 hrs a day but she choses to eat only once, right after her evening playtime outside (7pm or later).... so basically she eats then goes to sleep.... shes always done it so and is healthy and fine so i dont think its a prob.... ofcourse she gets treats in between but she doesnt always want them either.... |
