My babies are Pet Therapy dogs.... they are so cute. I am known at work as the "Yorkie lady" now. I have my babies pictues posted all over my office and on my office door. I bring my babies to work for pet therapy at the nursing home. They stay at work with me all day when I bring them. The rec lady takes them all day. They are a HUGE hit at the nursing home where I am a Clinical Nurse Manager. If I come to work w/o the babes my residents always ask how are the babies and where are they. I just love them so much. Even my hubby who has always been a BIG dog kind of guy has grown to absolutely love these 2. It is amazing cuz my hubby was not fond of me getting these dogs cuz he wanted a rottie again. Our rott had died of old age, had him for 12 years. I insisted on getting a Yorkie and he said no but I got him anyways. Figured he would be pissed and grunt for awhile but he will get over it, he ALWAYS does....LOL....well guess who fell in love with Tobey and now my hubby calls Tobey HIS dog...LOL....Funny how things work out. I even got a 2nd Yorkie out of him. We both work at the same place too, so he loves when I bring them to work and he gets to visit with his babies too. |
Oh, I'm so jealous you get to bring your kids to work. I would LOVE to be able to do that. Of course they are luck to get to go with you. :) |
Yes, they actaully love it. They know where they are when I bring him there. They have fun and get LOTS of attention. |
That sounds great. I was never a little-dog person either, but when my wife brought one home it took about 2 minutes for me to fall in love with him. One of mine just passed his Delta Society test to become a Therapy Dog, and we have our hospital orientation next week. I can't wait to start visits. |
They make excellent therapy dogs. They are well liked by patients and staff. |
My girl is in training now! She has to turn a year first though. :p |

Good for you for doing just that. |
at our facility we just have to bring in proof of their shots and thats it. No training. Mine are excellent mannered anyhows. Just seems to come naturally with them. |

How wonderful that you can make the residents days a little more joyful with your babies! What a great story!:) |
Yes they know there way around the place too. I have found them sleeping with some of the residents in their bed. Im pretty fortunate cuz Im at work with them all day and sometimes I dont even see them but a few times cuz everyone else has them and take very good care of them. They are becoming the mascots of our facility. The residents can hold them and cuddle them not just pet them as with the bigger dogs. |
What a wonderful idea .... to share our yorkies with patients that could use a little boosting up! How do you go about doing training for this? I think it would be so nice to be able to do this. I also work at a hospital... we have children's wards, and also have palliative care wards..which my mother was in before her death. I think it would be so nice to see the smiles abound with a cute little yorkie to cuddle and brighten their days! Our little one is not quite old enough yet.. she is 6 months right now but I sure could see doing this for some of the patients!:aimeeyork:animal36:) |
My Tobey is 16 months old and I have been bringing him to work since he was 6 months old, when I got him. My Jade is 5 months and I have been bringing her in since she was 3 months, when I got her. |
I bring their food and pack them for the day. They are wiped out when we get home though. They have done a days work!:) |
That's wonderful that your babies can actually bring joy to the residents where you work. My father is in a nursing home and I take my babies there quite often. They don't interact with anyone but my dad, but I know how much he enjoys them being there. What a good thing you are doing for the elderly. My boys are with me at work right now. They have a toy box, a bed, and complete supply of food here. And they have complete run of the place. I try to keep them in my office, but when my boss gets here, he lets them out, and tells them he's letting them out of jail! Everyone here loves them. Today, they have on their new Monkey Daze overalls. They are really a hit today! You and I are very fortunate to be able to bring our babies to work. Have a wonderful day! |
