(Long) Need advise from anyone w/more than 1 Yorkie Help.................... I've had Baxter for a little over a year now since a pup and have a very good possibility of taking in another Yorkie. I've had two dogs at once - don't get me wrong, but they were bigger (Akita's) and we got them at the same time. The dog that I may get (I don't even know her name) is coming from an older woman that's had her for the last five years. Just the two of them. She's now being forced out of her home and cannot take the dog with her. Unfortunately, she doesn't even know this yet. She has relatives close by and I'm hoping it would be a relief for her to know she can still see her baby whenever she wants. My issues / questions are: 1) Baxter really isn't very social - It's been him and my Akita for the last year and believe me - he really is spoiled. Will he accept her - 2) The little lady that may be coming here has been just w/her owner. My house is a bit crazy - 4 teenagers and always noise. Will she be able to deal with us. I think I know the answer - Only time will tell. But if you can share any advise or let me know if you've had a similar situation. Sorry for babbling |
I have 5 Yorkies, 2 Biewers, 1 Chi/Pom mix, and 1 Papillion. They are all different ages and we got them at different times. One of our new Biewers was 7 months old when we got him so he had adjusted to a certain life style prior to coming to our house. He was not very well socialized. I think it just takes a strong pack leader to make things work. I brought Spanky in and put him down ad said MINE in a loud voice. As the other dogs went to sniff him a repeated MINE!. They accepted that he was mine and all went well. Even our spoiled diva Chelsey just ignores him like 'Oh well heres another one...Sigh...' |

LOL OMG your house must be a wonderful place to live. Yes I agree. YOU have to be the pack leader. If you don't know how to do this I suggest that you watch Cesar Milan The Dog Whisperer on the National Geographic channel. or buy his DVD. If you re not a strong leader, it will not work. As for the teenagers and the commotion, I would just make sure that the new little girl had a crate that she could go to where no one is allowed to bother her. she will adjust to all of that in her own time. good Luck. |
1 Attachment(s) When we got Sam she was 10 months old and Loki was and still is afraid of other dogs. They avoided each other for about a week and Loki wasn't sure if he liked her. Once he figured out she wasn't leaving he started to like her. Now they wrestle and play all day long. She kinda beats the snot out of him because he's a easy target, but we don't have any fights or aggression issues. They bark at each other over who's stick it is, but they know if they get into it I'll just take it away so they get along. They are good for each other :D Look one day about a month after we got her we found them on the couch like this. They have been friends every since. ETA: I was worried about some jealousy issues because Loki usually freaks when I pet other dogs, but I'd worked with him a ton and for whatever reason, he's not jealous of her at all. He lets her drink water first and he's a pushover with his toys and treats and things. He doesn't care if she's on my lap. I think they know they are stuck with each other and they totally act like brother and sister. One minute they are playing the next minute it's "Mom he's touching me!" Like I said they are good together. |
