Need advice Please I'm sure you all know me by now with my annoying questions but as you all know i'm taking in a little guy. I got a call and they would like me to take him ASAP, I don't know what to do because I planned on taking him at 12 weeks. It seemed important that he goes to me this weekend he'll be almost 9 weeks and I don't know what to do. I called my vet the told me it was okay and just have him vet checked when I get him. They gave me some meds for deworming as he hasn't been yet and my appt is monday becasue they aren't open sat/sunday. I am so scared he's going to become anti-social and have issues coming home this early. This isn't my choice for him to come this early but it seems I have no choice. Advice please and be kind because as I've said this isn't my choice to take him this early. |
All I can tell you is that Wiz came to me at 8 weeks old ( I never knew at the time that 12 weeks was the norm but the breeder should have ) . Anyways , he is the most sociable little guy at 4 months old you could ever care to meet . That being said I socialized him ( carefully ) from the moment he came home . He has met other dogs ( we have a shepherd ) cat , kids , different sounds and situations . I just did what I would do with any puppy . Started training him from day 1 . His size made me careful but I still did it . He even met my neighbours hedgehog . I tried not to baby him too much ( and believe me that was hard ) .He listens well for a little guy .Every puppy is unique ( and I am no expert ) but I think if you give them the basics when they are young , you are more likely to have a well adjusted adult . Good luck ..and don't be worried ..be postive and realxed . Dogs pick up on our emotions . |
Thank you very much. Since the day I've decided to take him on it's been a rollercoaster ride for so many reasons. Because of lineage etc. he may have health issues etc. but I am willingly take him on knowing all of this because giving a furbaby that needs care and a home has always been a passion of mine. As excited as I was to do this I wanted to have him with the family till 12 weeks but due to circumstances it's going to be sooner. I get him Saturday please wish me luck. |
I'm sure he'll be fine :) We brought Abby home at 10 weeks and she is the most lovable little girl ever! Please don't worry so much, just enjoy and love him and everything will work out great! All the best to you and your new little guy! |
Do you have a name picked out for him? |

We brought Cooper home at 8 weeks and he is well behaved. He is so lovable and mines us to a tee. Just remember to make sure he eats and you see him eating. Also get some Nutracal in case his blood sugar drops. Good Luck with your new puppy |
I dont think getting him at 9 weeks is as bad as say 6 weeks like some people get theirs. I got one of mine at 8 weeks and didnt have any problems. I think the best time to get them is 10-12 weeks. So your only a week early |
I just got Pasquale last Saturday and he's 9 weeks old. Anti-social? My god..this dog wants to go to everyone ...human OR dog. He LOVES the attention! I'm sure you'll do fine and he'll have a great home! And Lando is such a cute name! |
As long as you socialize him, he will be a wonderful puppy. It won't change a thing about him by bringing him home now or later. It's in your hands to socialize him and teach him so he'll be a well-rounded puppy.:) |
I am really nervous because he hasn't been vet checked yet, no shots etc. I am very dissapointed this isn't done yet so Monday will be his first vet visit. Please say a prayer he is okay. I am going ot make sure everything in my house is sanitized and am not letting anyone near him unless it's me or my husband and they have sanitized hands. Seriously this is just such a roller coaster please keep your fingers crossed everything is okay. I guess this is part of the job you take when rescuing. |
Wow I would say you are rescuing him. Its sad he hasnt had any shots. Where are you getting him from?? I am sure everything will be fine but I will say a prayer for him |

Katie was 9 weeks when I got her. That's the age in England, and she loves all dogs and people. Hugs Shirl x x |
Better he goes now to someone who cares so much than is left with someone who just seems to want to unload him. I'm sure he'll be fine with proper care. Congrats! |
