New member here.... Hello everyone, my name is Chris and I recently got married and thought to myself what would be the best give for my now wife. So I found a set of 12 week old purebred Yorkies right near my work and called and talked with the woman and now we are the proud owners of 2 beautiful Yorkies! We both have had dogs in our lives since we have been young, so when I found these 2 I knew she was be so excited. I am sooo glad I found these 2 and I am already in love with these 2 pooches. These 2 are the cutest dogs ever, from the 1st time they met us they will not leave our sides. We named them Izzy and Lacey. I hope to learn a lot from this site and already have since I wanted to see what we were getting ourselves into by buying these dogs. So these are our first and will not be the last. I will try to post some pictures of these 2 later when the wake up from there nap. Currently we are feeding them Iams small dog & toy puppy food, is this a good choice? The women that we bought them from said that her male Yorkie loves it and is one of the best to feed them. We also picked up some doggie treats for training and a few toys so they had something to play with. We had a few accidents so far but by reading the sticky about training for new owners we should expect this. We also got the puppy pads and they don't seem to work, but I guess we will keep trying them. Is there a good place to put them? Right now we live in a 2 bedroom condo and have the pups food and bed in the bathroom along with the kennel and the puppy pads. Should we move them? I would like to put the food by the cats food but they seem to eat the cats food so I am trying to keep them away from that. Also is there a good way to get our cats use to them? Our male cat who is 2 years old is ok when them so far (only had them for 1 day) but our female cat who is barely one does not care for them at all, they try to be friendly but she just hisses at them. Congrats on the new puppies! As far as potty training you have to watch them very closely and as soon as you suspect they're about to go, take them to the puppy pads. For Romeo, since he was peeing/pooping under our couch, thats where we put the puppy pads and he started going there on the pads! We thought the pads wouldn't work in the beggining but they worked really well over time. Its too early to take them outside to pee/poop since they don't have all their vaccinations yet, but once they have all their vaccs, its so much easier to take them out every so often. Just remember, you will need a lot of patience and it'll take some time to fully train them. Romeo rarely uses the pads now, as we mostly take him out. But when we leave him at home and leave him in the bedroom, we put the pads down and he's really good about only going on the pads. As far as the cat, my parents (well dad now, mom passed away recently:() have a cat and she hasn't cared for Romeo from the beggining. So we just let them be, maybe watch them around her when they are young and when they get older yo won't have to watch them as closely.... Hope this helps, can't wait to see pics:) |

Welcome to YT!! :wavey: So glad to have you both here - can't wait to see pictures of your girls. I think your set up for the pups sounds good. You might want to read up on crate training as an option that can often speed up the training process. Give your kitty time, she may come around - at least to tolerating the pups, but it could be mths. My male Siamese - so easy going, could have cared less; but the female, like yours was another story and she still once in awhile gets annoyed at them for just existing  Definitely avoid the yorkies eating the cat food - it can actually be dangerous for them to eat it. I would recommend a different food other than Iams. This is a decent website to read - its someone's opinion - but it does break down ingredients in just about every food out there and gives you plus and minus on each food Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble |

Howdy and welcome to YT!! :aimeeyork |
Hello and welcome to YT! Wow! Your wife is a lucky woman! I can't even imagine trying to potty train two at once. Good luck! |
Yeah there 2 sure are a handful, I mean I leave quite early for work and get home around 2 and as soon as I get home these girls are going crazy to see me! Then I take them outside and less than 5 mins outside they both pee, and about 5 mins later they both poop, and as I am saying this they are both licking my feet. Yes kinda gross since I did just get home from work but I think its nice, haha. I try to keep them away from the cat food at all times, so when I am home do you think I should give them both food or what is a good schedule to feed them at? |
