Very clingy and dependant yorkie, please help. He's been like this ever since he was a baby but i never thought it was an issue until now. He is constantly wanting to play, i know you might say that he's young and active, but i don't think that's the issue anymore. We go out for walks and we have play sessions. The problem is that he doesn't let me sit down. He's constantly looking for attention. he doesn't just want me to hug and pet him, he's always standing there with a toy. If i ignore him he will start whining. I love my dog to pieces, i'm definately not complaining. However, i really want to know if im doing something wrong and how should I respond to this needy behaviour. Please help!!! |
Yep! You've got a yorkie all right!:D That isn't what you wanted to hear. They are people dogs. If you work during the day, it is probably because he needs the attention at night. If you don't work during the day, I would think he needs a playmate.:D |
So everyone else's yorkies are like this too??? wow.... they could be a hand full ;) |
Yep thats my monkey tooshie.... She is so attached to me that no one else is even allowed to hold her.. She wiggles and panics that I am leaving. She even freaks if someone else is holding her leash even if I am standing next to her! She is def. a people dog but I am the person... lol If that makes sense.. At 2.5 she is ever so slightly starting to calm down with the constant playing but still needs to be center of attention. |
That is definitely a Yorkie for you, my Teddy used to stay up my behind....if I went somewhere he was right there, even to the potty. If he couldn't go...he would cry. I wouldn't have had it any other way. |

Ever since I brought Bailey home with me, its been PLAYTIME!!!!! And - she's 8 years old now. I've learned by watching Cesar Milan that if I hold up my hand and firmly say 'NO', she will settle down and stop harrassing me. Of course, if I decide to get up and go into another room, she starts all over again. But, the hand and no seems to work wonders. They will respond to hand signals and body language better than verbal commands alone.:) |
My guys are always with me. The minute I stand up to go to another room there's a little line of doggies following me. LOL |
HaHaHa It's the same here. My trio follow me from room to room. I think sometimes it helps to wear them out. All except my yorkie. She is like the Energizer Bunny - she just keeps going and going. LOL BUT she does sleep all night long. |
I have to agree with this Quote:
I have four Yorkies, and I never tire of watching them run and jump on one another and play tug of war with their toys. Granted, they also love their people, and my house sounds like a dog kennel when I come in the door after I've been gone for an hour, because they don't like their people being out of sight for too long. They love me and my husband, who dotes on them as much as I do, but having a playmate can help to ease the separation anxiety. |

You Allow It! I have 3 Yorkie's and as "Cesar Millan" would say you Allow it. If you were the true Pack Leader your Dog/Yorkie would be attached in a Attentive way not a clingy way? One of mine is very playful she will run and get her Favorite toy and play 24/7 if I let her, but I do NOT allow it b/c she needs to understand that I am in control and we play when I want to not just b/c she wants to? Otherwise that's all she wold do all the time. Yorkie's are control freaks if you let them? |

phew! omg u don't understand how relieved i am to see all the replies!!! Now i know that i've got a true yorkie :) I was so scared that he might have some issue that i was gonna go see a therapist with him! (sorry first time owner :p) About getting a playmate, its not an option for me because he has jealousy issues. Maybe this is a whole new topic. I always wanted to get him a lil bro or sis but he goes crazy when i hold other dogs.... any advice on that?? |
