oh we have ALL been there- i'm leaving Layla for a while this afternoon and feel horrible about it. But he feeds off of your energy- if you make a big deal about leaving and coming home- he will start to get anxious about it. When you come home be very calm say hi to him and go about your business- once he has settled down give him a special treat. Also try and have a routine for him. When i leave Layla i put a special blanket on the stairs (Where she hangs out when i'm gone) i tell her to "come give mommy a kiss" and then i say "Layla i will be RIGHT back" so when i do those three things she knwos i'm leaving but like usual, i'll be coming back. Try starting a routine tomorrow.. and when you leave.. make it no big deal. Maybe part of your routine will be giving him a special treat or toy he only gets when you go. At first he will have a bit of anxiety and that is normal but if you are calm and he sees taht you go and come back and it's no biggie- soon he won't even care that you leave (layla doesn't care anymore) Also when you get home make sure he gets a nice long walk :) I hear dogs can't decipher time taht is longer than 20 min... but who knows! |
I wish we had somebody to watch him while we are at work, or even come by. I've been trying to find someone that would come by for maybe an hour or 2 a day. I just cant stand the though of him being alone. I have calmed down a little bit since all these posts. |
he will be fine... sleeping. i was a wreck wen i had to leave abby alone. i swear to god i wanted to quit my job n be with her all day!!! well one day i told my cousin to stay at my house the whole day while i was gone. i kept callin her every half hour or so and everytime i got the response that she was SLEEPING!! believe me u both will adjust in no time. just think about how happy ur both gonna b wen u do get home. shower him in kisses. |
If I could afford to I would sooo quit my job in a heart beat to be with him all day everyday!! People make fun of me because when I do have to leave her, I always leave early from wherever I am just to go see her. We are members of the moose lodge and me and my family go up every Friday, well i'm there for probably about an hour at most then i'm out the door to get Bandit. They think i'm nuts but I dont care lol. He is my world, and until you own a Yorkie, you'll never understand lol. |
1 Attachment(s) Ok so here is a picture of Bandit that I took with my phone as I was leaving today :( Sorry its kinda dark. Didnt have the right lighting for my camera phone. |

I know how u feel !! I work 10 till 5, when i first left kinny I could hear her crying as i left, my neighbour across the road asured me she did nt cry solid but on and off during the day ! It took 2 weeks of this before she got into the routine, me i ended up putting my i pod in so i did nt have to hear the crying. Six months old i would say she is a well adjusted dog, although i know she does nt eat or play with her toys till one of us returns home so i guess she sleeps mostly, i still feel really guilty though. |
I know how you feel!!!! We got Mufasa at the beginning of the summer when my kids were out of school and I was so worried when the kids went back to school and I was at work that he would be lonely and scared. LUCKILY for me the girl who cuts my hair had a liter of yorkiepoos and she GAVE me one so now Mufasa has a friend to play with. At first he wasn't that happy with her and I thought about returning the puppy but I'm glad I hung in there because they play really great together. School started back on Friday so now Mufasa and Nahla can play during the day and keep each other company. |
He will be all right. I imagine your heart is more broken than his, because he'll sleep most of the day if not all of it. He'll be ecstatic to see you this evening! Try not to imagine him hurting. His hurt just lasted for a few minutes. He'll get used to your new routine eventually and you will both be ok.:) |
I have been at home since getting my Diddy in April but will be returning to work by the end of the year. I worry so much about having to leave him alone even though he is good when I have to leave him to run errands or go to the gym. Your support for Bandit is making me feel better. YTers are the best. Thanks. |
Bandit is adorable. He will be fine being left alone. Conner and I have a routine in the morning. I get ready for work, take him for a walk, then we come home and I get his breakfast ready. I put it in his xpen that has toys and a bed. I tell him to kennel up, and he goes right in and eats his breakfast. My sister comes to my house around 1 to let him out to potty and feed him lunch (his meals are split, 3 times a day (chicken) with kibble left down. She trys to play with him, but he is tired and wants to sleep. When I get home at 3, he is ready to go. I have to take him for a walk before doing anything else. He plays all night and is ready for bed around 10. I was on vacation for a week, now we have to get into the routine all over again tomorrow. |
Thanks everyone for the support today, I appreciate it greatly. I ended up having to come home a few hours early anyways because I hurt my back at work, I pulled a muscle while moving a box that weighed around 100 or so lbs. So needless to say i'm in pain even more now. Anyways when I got home, Bandit came running out of the room the second I opened the door and was shaking really bad. He didnt calm down until about 2 hours ago. He wouldnt even let me wash my hands, he kept jumping up and down at my legs wanting to be picked up, he's laying on my legs right now (i'm on the couch) He is so attached to me today. I feel so bad and i'm going to have to do it again tomorrow, unless my back is worse and I cant work. I may get to stay home with him!! Its sad that I want to be in more pain so I can stay home with him lol. Anyways thanks for being there for me!! |
I used to feel bad about leaving my little one at home too. But listen to this! Recently my boyfriend and I moved in together. He works a night job, so I thought it would be perfect. I'm coming home from work when he's leaving, and thus, my pup is never alone. BUT, lo and behold, my boyfriend says she doesn't even want to play during the day. I guess she got used to sleeping all day when I'm not home, that even when someone is home, she doesn't want to play. I think weekends are different because we usually take her hiking or do something physical where she runs around a lot. But, I do think she got used to sleeping all day during the work-week. I really don't feel bad anymore! I agree with the other post that said your Yorkie feeds off of your energy. Every day, before I leave for work, I give her a kiss and tell her to be good. Sometimes she gets in her bed and lies down after I say this, BEFORE I even walk out the door. If you make it seem like its no big deal, she'll be fine! She'll get used to your routine. Best of luck! Be strong! |
Something I used to do and you might try is to leave an article of clothing in his bed that you have worn, then he'll feel like you are still there in a way. |
