Tearing Eddie has been tearing for the last month or so. Not horribly, but just enough so there's a damp line coming down from each eye. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it food related? Allergies? We've had him on Nutro for the past 8 months or so and have never had problems. |
May want to check with vet to make sure it isn't a in-grown eyelash or it his hair poking in his eye. Then of course it could be what you mentioned. |

I don't know if it specifically is a problem because Ruby always has eye discharge but I have found that nothing works best than a cotton ball soak in hot water to clean the eyes and i have even tryed the eye cleaning pads and don't really see good results. Hope this helps. |
I really think all Yorkies tear a little. I know Chloe has always teared....not much but enough to keep the hair around her eyes a little wet! She's only 10 weeks old, does anyone know if this will stop. Joy, Nikki and Chloe Rose :rose:   |
Every time I take a new baby to the vet for the first check-up, I ask them to check the eyes for signs of blocked or incomplete naso-lacrimal ducts. That is a fancy name for what we non-vets call tear ducts. They put a dye in the eyes, rinse, turn off the room lights and use a bluelight to see if there is any of the dye from the eye showing in the nostril. If not, that is the reason for tearing in a large majority of the time. There are other reasons as mentioned in the other posts, but not many people know to have this checked. When their dentals and altering are done, the vet can flush the ducts and try to open them. |
All great advice, thanks again. |
. lexi too, her hair below the eyes is alway wet... even like 10 minutes after i clean it.... i was also wondering if it will stop |

Gwen always tears and my vet said to use some over the counter eye drops for cleansing the eyes. They work really well. |
I trimmed the little hairs with the gunk coming off of them and it hasn't been bad since then. |
My Jwels always has a little bit of tearing also. I just clean it with a cloth with warm water on it. |
I didnt know that the tear duct blockage can be a reason for the tearing of the eyes. Ty for the tip. Gucci doesnt tear up that much, I guess in her case is the hair poking her eye. That is why I trim some of that hair. |
