Well I was thinking about using Petplan when we come over ..... but somebody (I think it was Judy) said she has an Bankaccount with money comeing in it every month for the dog ..... just in case ...... and I think that is a great Idea ..... |
I asked about Pet Insuance on the Health & Diet Thread, so I thought I'd let you know that I ened up getting Pet Insurance for Leah. The plan I went with was: Pet Plan. The reason I chose them was because they cover everything, along with congenital issues and they have long term chronic care. Hopefully, they will never have to use it. I'm figuring the kids (daughter & boyfriend) couldn't afford to pay high vet bills, but could afford to put it on a credit card and pay it back after the deductiable, coinsurance, etc.. and only have a small bill left in the end. (having lost their other yorkie to liver shunt, I don't want to take any chances with this new puppy ~ I should have gotten it a month ago....wasn't thinking!) I feel alot better knowing that we took every precaution this time to keep Leah safe & healthy! And not because of cost!!!! |

Does that insurance require a deductible? This is what has got me a little confused. I got an email this morning from ASPCA regarding their pet insurance, and it said they pay 80% of certain services. |
Yes, they have a deductiable AND a coinsurance. The plan goes like this: You have a $4000 bill, the deductiable is 200 and the coinsurance is 10% (of total bill) so I would only have to pay $600 for a $4000 procedure. I bought the "bronze with a 10% coinsurance and a 200 deductiable and paid just over $200 for the year. I guess I'm figuring that if anything happens it's going the cost is going to be up there so I'd better be safe than sorry. (The liver shunt procedure that her other one was going to have was going to be over $6000....there was no way they could have afforded it even if they could have saved her) I bought it for them for the 1st year....you can always change the plan according too. I just pray that they NEVER have to use it. Leah is very healthy right now but you never know....we didn't know that Carmen was sick until it was too late. Good luck to you and let me know what you decide. |

If you dont mind me asking, how much is your monthly payment? |
I paid for the full year....and it think it was around $236. I paid that much for the 1st year because I figured THEY could afford the 600 vs. a larger amount if something big happened. They can change it next year if they want....they (daughter) is just on her own and cant possibly afford anything big right now. The Pet Plan Insurance website has a "claim calculater" so you can put in different senero's and adjust. I even called them and asked some questions. |
Thank you! Im definitely going to check it out. I can't keep doing it with cash or credit card like I have been  |
