Newbee to Yorkie world I am not a newbee to have a dog be a part of the family, but this is our first Yorkie and by far the smallest dog I have ever had! Dusty is 4 months old and seems to be as happy as can be. My "daughter" Bella is a bordercollie/boston terrier mix, and she seems to be perfectly content with her new "brother". We also have a 13 year old human son, but he is used to us referring to him as their bubby and he considers them his siblings. When anyone says he is an only child he argues with them and says we have two other children, Dusty and Bella, so he does not get a chance to be an only child! Our plan is to continue to crate train (was already started when we got him) just like we did Bella and she is the best dog I have ever had, but does anyone have any suggestions for crate training a Yorkie. Anything I should know that may be different with the Yorkie. I am sure I will have a million other questions for you all. Thanks for having such a wonderful resource of info for those of is new to the "Tiny" world of Yorkiedom! |
Hi and welcome to YT. How big is your yorkie? How is the crate training going? You'll find lots of good information here. Keep posting. And pictures -- we love pictures. |
welcome I have been on YT for a few months and don't know how to navigate as well as many others but I can say hello. :welcome4: |

Welcome to the world of being owned by a Yorkie! They are the best little people in fur costumes! I didn't crate train my boy, so I can't offer any advice, but I'm sure you will get lots of others who have. Try out the Training section for more info on this. Good luck! |
Thanks For the welcome We could not get dusty to register on our digital scale even with my husband holding him, so that will have to wait until the vet :) , but I think he is pretty small even in Yorkie terms, but he has a very BIG personality! He is pretty spunky and not the least bit jumpy around bigger dogs or even my old cranky cats. He really seems to be comfortable in the crate, not that he wouldnt rather be running laps around my living room, but we have had him home all day and we have not had any accidents. More than I can say for most of my friends and their visiting pooches. We live on 6 acres in TN and all my friends know their pups are as welcome as they are! With some I like their canines better! So I feel like that may not be as difficult as I thought. When we trained our "Bella" it was a marathon to get her out the door before an accident, but now we have no issues with that and she sleeps in her crate with the door open, like it is her bedroom. I hope Dusty will feel the same. I am not opposed to a pooch on the furniture or in the bed, but I would be so afraid becuase he is so small. I attached a pic of Dusty in his crate because that is the only time today I could get him to sit still long enough to snap a pic of his face! He loves his little comfy cordouroy bed and lounges there whenever we put him "night night" I will hopefully get more pics tomorrow. We have yard work tomorrow so I am hoping to catch some of her playing in the grass. |
