Jokerman | 08-09-2008 07:00 AM | I lied to you, but now I'm back :) Last year I was looking to buy a Yorkie puppy so I joined Yorkie Talk. I searched for several months, found a breeder whose dogs I LOVED, but she wouldn't sell to me because I asked too many questions and she thought I was a breeder. I continued searching for the perfect puppy for me, while reading everything I could get my hands on about Yorkies. Eventually, everything I read scared me off from getting a yorkie puppy. I was afraid I would go insane worrying about hypoglycemia, liver shunt, luxating patella, Legg Perthes disease, collapsing trachea, and all the other diseases/health problems Yorkies can get. I don't know if it was just a bad time for sick dogs on Yorkie Talk last summer, but I was reading so many threads about sick and dying dogs, and it literally scared me off getting a pup.
Now, fast forward one year, and here I am, back again. I've been lurking again for a few months. I just couldn't get past wanting a Yorkie, as hard as I tried. So, I just bought my first Yorkie puppy and decided to stop lurking and brag on him a little. :D I have had him for a week and I am MADLY in love with this little boy. He is so adorable, and so smart. I now see why all you Yorkie owners are so crazy about this breed of dog. I am very happy I overcame my fears and took the plunge. He is precious.
One thing about my puppy that I have found amazing it how easy he has been to potty train. I had read how hard Yorkies are to potty train, and was worried it might take a year to train him. He's not perfect, but he has had very few accidents in my house and all but one have been my fault. He knows what "outside" means and what "potty" means, and has been almost perfect on going outside to potty. The breeder I got him from told me if I wanted him to potty outside, that I shouldn't even start with pee pads, so I didn't. He is older, four months, so it's been extremely easy teaching him to go to the bathroom outside. I'm thrilled with his progress.
Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks to everything who posts on YorkieTalk. I really enjoy this forum and appreciate all I have learned here, and I'm so happy I finally got my yorkie puppy. I look forward to being a part of this yorkie community and continuing my education on all things Yorkie. Oh, and I'm sorry I lied to you last year saying Yorkies were not the breed for me. I was wrong, and thank goodness, I finally came to my senses! :D |
