Yorkie puppy rescued from a puppymill My wife and I have been presented the opportunity to adopt a 8-week old female named Rosie that was rescued form a puppymill. I'm apprehensive about her genetic disposition coming from such a place. I'm curious for any information regarding her health and future. I know that someone needs to love her no matter her health, but I want to know what to expect. Thanks, |
Is it possible for you to take her for a vet check before you decide? |
HI I used to have two chihuahuas that were rescued from a puppy mill when I was in High school, I loved them, their family was having a baby so I took them both. They were not ok around kids. they lived long happy lives and never had health problems. you may have good luck too, since yours is a puppy 8 weeks old:) |
I don't think that we'll be able to bring her to the vet before hand. I don't know if poor genetics would be something they could check at such a young age. Someone needs to love her so I think we'll take the chance. |
Good to know, thanks! |
I would also take a chance with tis baby.. She could turn out to be perfect.. Either way you are right she needs someone to take care of her and love her.. |
Good for you. Congratulations on giving this little one a chance in life. Be patient and love her. Buddy was taken away from his parent's at around 8wks and sent from Hungary to the USA where I bought him. Didn't know about brookers, pet stores etc. at the time. At around 1yr he started with issues, toy aggression, food aggression etc. They say that if they are taken to soon they don't learn social skills and may have behavior problems later. I don't know if that's the case but we worked threw it. I just wanted to tell you that if they should occur you can work threw them with training and Ceaser Millan:p He got us threw it and today he is just the bestest!:D Bless your both and good luck I'm sure it will be fine. |
I would take the chance. There are so many babies that need homes. With the amount of puppymills and back yard breeders there are in this country, lately, it seems to be virtually impossible to avoid getting one of those pups. It's a chance no matter what or where ;) Rescuing is the BEST thing you can do - GO FOR IT  |

I rescued my Maemi from a Puppymill. She is about 5 years old and 3.8 lbs. She was in really bad shape when I got her but we got through it. She is wonderful. You're doing a good thing. The rewards are so worth it. Goodluck. Take Rosie to the Vet when you get her. They can check her out for you. |
Good luck, many people buy from puppy mills and have no idea that this is the case. Pet stores and websites sales are furnished through puppy mills and backyard breeders. Usually I'm against someone from buying a puppy mill dog, and saying they rescued it because this dog will be replaced by another, and it's parents will continue to live in horrible conditions. However, in your case it's a true rescue. Check out the rescue group, and make sure it's a legitimate rescue. Many breeders are getting more business savvy and opening up their own rescues. A rescued dog usually costs no more than $300, and is always neutered, I'm not sure about puppies, but please make sure this is not just a way for a puppy miller to dispose of his dogs. I'm a little suspicious of Good Dog Rescue, here is the website: Welcome to Good Dog! Rescue Why were they having a problem following state regulations? State regulations are usually extreemly easy to follow for all, but the very worse. Please check into this more. |
hmm that is strange... to the op...welcome to Yt..glad you found us! |

This information matches the contact info I received, I guess I shortened their name. They seem to be doing the good work. Still waiting to hear back from them... |
Here's an on line article that mentions this group.... MyFox Colorado | Good Samaritans Rescue 6 Dogs From Burning SUV |
The rescue name is good dog animal rescue, just to clear things up. Here is their site: Good Dog Animal Rescue - Home |
I have only rescued little ones and they are doing extremely well . |
I would do it in a heartbeat! I have a puppymill puppy who is wonderful. He's almost 14 weeks and the smartest little guy. Post pics so we can all see your new baby. :) |
My Yorkie is 4 years old and came from a breeder. She was released to a no killer rescue organization which is who we adopted her from. We are the first family she has ever had. Everything is new to her, we had to start from scratch like she was a new born pup. She only knew the kennel and having pups. They say that when you adopt an older dog there is a "honeymoon" period of 4 to 5 weeks then they start to act like themselves. We have not had any issues with her (other than separation anxiety), we have had her about 6 weeks now. She is a sweet little girl who loves being with us and having lots of attention and special treatment. We were not allowed to have her vet checked before we adopted her which concerned me. But we took a chance on her and so far so good!:aimeeyork |
Hi and welcome to YT. I think it is fabulous that your able to rescue this puppy. I'd be sure to have the puppy seen by a vet ASAP. Since the pup is from a rescue, and very young, she needs to be treated for parasites, and kept indoors all the time. She is too young for vaccinations. And the concern is Parvo, Distemper, flu, because she has been around other dogs , she is at a high risk. :aimeeyork As far as I understand, rescue groups do not just adopt out to just anyone. :aimeeyork |
