What do i need to do after my dog is home from beeing fixed? My dog Max, goes in to be neutered on the 18th, I will get him back the same night, but my question is, what do i do prior to his surgery and after when he is home? Is there anything special that I should do, Or do u have any good advice that I should no prior or after. Thanks |
We have steps by the bed and couch and make sure he uses them because there should be no jumping for a couple of weeks. Some people get those baby onesies so that the dogs won't lick the incision, and they are probably more comfortable that the cones. Some vets say no bath for a couple of weeks too. Hope everything goes well with your little guy, Joey felt pretty bad the day after surgery, but by the next day he seemed fine. |
He wont be able to eat after a certain time in the evening before the surgery. (your vet will tell you) You cant bathe him for 2 weeks after the surgery. Also get pain meds,, you may not need them but they are good to have in case. Some vets dont give them and youll have to ask for them |
Baxter breezed through being neutered. He didn't have to wear onesies or the head funnel or anything. He also had his dewclaws removed at the same time. That was more painful for him. The neutering seemed fine. The 2 weeks without a bath is what did us in. Then we had to have him shaved because he got so matted but his adult coat is coming in beautifully. |
For several days leading up to Gracie's I just spent as much time doing the things she loved, lots of walks, extra treats, cuddles and playtime. The night before we played her favorite game, Hunt Ducky, for hours. :p Then the first couple of days afterwards she really only wanted to cuddle and sleep. So that's what we did. I put everything on the back burner and just cuddled with her. But after the second day, she was back to normal and full steam ahead! It was challenging to keep her quite, she certainly didn't feel much pain thru it all. She got her stitches out yesterday and tonight I'm hooking up the lawn sprinkler for her to run around in. :D:D Her new favorite thing to do. Then an extra long walkies and then it's bath time 'cause she's extra specially skanky! I would absolutely try the onesies before the cone. They really seem to hate the cone. Of course, it could be he'll be like Gracie and not really bother the stitches and you won't have to do anything special |
