I'm back to work and Chewie still isn't potty trained... It's mostly my fault for being impatient...basically Chewie has no idea that he needs to potty outside when we're out there. I take him to trees to sniff for other dogs scent and areas I think other dogs might have gone potty...nothing...he just spins around sniffing, digging and barking at other people. I tried to check his peepee pad reaction again yesterday and again he clawwed it to death. Now, I'm back to work...and he's pinned up in the kitchen/hallway...probably eating the carpet and peeing on the doors... :( I'm gone from 7:30am until after 7pm...what can I do? |
Wow that is a long time for any puppy ..maybe you could ask a friend to pop in the morning half way and half way in the afternoon . I did that for my daughter's shepherd when he was crated when he was young and he is fine now . I would suggest a crate so that he learns to hold himself ...as long as he gets the breaks with a friend instead of a free for all in the kitchen . Just my opinion ...or doggie day care ! |
That's a good idea, but no one I know lives in "popping-in" distance" :( He has a crate but I was afraid to leave him in there for 12 hours. Won't that make him crazy and maybe even pee/poo on himself? |
I would think 12 hours is too long for sure . What about doggy day care ??.Can you bring him to school as a mascot ( long shot here ) . |
We'd like to try doggie daycare once I get situated back at work and the paychecks start coming back in. What all do they do there? |
Does he use the pee pads ever? Baxter is 7 months and I am gone from 7:15 - 5:30 and bless his heart most days he holds it. He has pee pads available but as long as no one bothers him he usually doesn't use it. I can tell if my niece has been to my house to swim b/c on that day he has used a pee pad. I think she wakes him up. He can't hold it all night but he can hold it all day. I wouldn't crate him for that long. Good luck. |
He shreds pee pads to dust...there's something about the pheremones on them that make him crazy. I usually test his reaction to them once at the beginning of the month and once at the end. I wonder if that will change once he's fixed... |
Have you tried putting some urine on one? I had to clean up where Baxter peed on the floor with one for him to get the idea. I put a little on a new one and left it in the bathroom where he stays and VOILA! he got it. |
Usually when he pees, he'll get on the carpet and i have to sop it up with a towel...it's usually not enough to put on the pad. He's never ever peed on the kitchen on the hard floor...which would help :p How much pee did u put on the pad for him to get it? How long did u have to do that? |
Just soak up a little on one corner. I only had to do it once. Prior to that BAxter was trying to shred his but he only tried to do it when I was watching. He would grab them and run with them. Now he knows not to do that after much correcting. Now - if I could just get him to sleep all night, life would be good. You are going to have to block him off of the carpet or he's going to keep on doing it. |
Haha, Chewie took to sleeping all night quicker than anything. He wont go in his crate by himself, we have to put him in there, but he doesnt make a peep all night. He wants out by 6:30am though. I'll take a pad and soak up his pee with it tonight and tomorrow then I'll see what his reaction is to it. I have no idea why I didn't think of doing that before...I just autmatically grab a towel and pee pee spray cleaner, LOL... |
Curious to know what you found when you got home ?.. |
I would suggest washable pads. They can't shred them. They work for us. Katy will go outside when she is out with the other dogs but mostly she uses her potty pads with holder. |
Surprisingly, on the first day we found nothing when we got home. Absolutely untouched. The second day was the same but he had somehow escaped from underneath the baby gate (2in gap) but he was just playing in the living room. Nothing was torn up. Now that he has his bully sticks which he loooooooves, he'll chew on them for hours and do nothing else :D |
What are bully sticks? |
