HumpyDog Wiz is my first male dog ever and at the ripe age of 3 and half months humps his favorite toys like it is going out of style . I do not feel that he has a dominant personality and is he not a bit young to be a stud ... so why is he so obsessed with doing this ? Is this normal for a male puppy so young ? It is a bit of an embarrassment when someone is over and there is my little sweetheart going to town on his wiener dog . |
if you want to stop this behavior then i suggest you stop it now before it gets worse.. you can limit this by picking him up with a stern "NO" and maybe a pat on the butt or put him elsewhere.. also neutering helps.. |
I got Archie as 3 months and one of his first official acts in our household was to hump my best friend's head as she lay on the floor playing with him! He was nuetered at 7 months (he's 2 and 1/2 now), but continues to hump his blanket (beside my friend's head, however, this is the only thing he has ever humped!). So, you see, I can't give you ANY constructive advice! |
Females hump, too...it's not just a male thing. It's more of a dominance thing when they keep doing it to other than females in heat. Gracie humps her stuffed bulldog, Handsome Dan, every night after dinner and has done it since she was a young puppy. |

my Suzi is 5 1/2 months old... She does this to me.. Tries to grab my arm, or leg. It is a dominace thing! She wants to be the Alpha dog, and show me that she's the boss. YES, put a stop to the behavior. I am working on this with Suzi too. :aimeeyork |
Well I have heard this is a dominance thing more than sexual but I have to say he does seem to have a dominant personality in other aspects of life . I did not know whether to distract him or not .. I thought it was a natural behaviour until he was neutered . |
Pepper started doing this almost from the day I brought him home. I would always tell him no and now he doesn't do it that much. He is a little over 5 months old now and in the next month or so I plan on having him neutered. |
Saki is 3 and he only does it with his stuffed toys but never infront of anyone...he likes his privacy. If we walk in the room he'll look at us like 'do you mind' or if he starts in the same room we're in and sees that we're looking at him he'll take it else where. |
Mine too. Aiden humps my cats heads,my other 14 yr old dog,and the latest is my arm. While I'm in bed,he straddles my arm:( I tell him sternly to stop. He has an apt to get neutered next Wed. Hopefully it'll stop. My 14 yr old humped a little while he was a pup,but stopped, and I never had him neutered. We'll see. All males are the same. LOL:D |
Gus also stopped humping after being neutered. Unless a dog will be used for breeding, spaying/neutering should be done anyway. But if your dog still humps after neutering, he's trying to dominate, and you'll need to do some behavior training. |
