Chewy I think most of you are familar with our situation with our puppy that passed on about 2mths ago due to what we think was malpractice causing our baby Chewy to eventually pass on. We finally talked to the lawyer today and the fee's they are asking for our very high- the cost for our lawyers expert witness is 200.00 per hour alone which at minimum will be 1hr to review chewys file and 2hrs to write his professional opinion. I understand that he is probably a very good vetrinarian but it seems outrageous that for most likely what will be 1hr of real work he will get 600.00. That doesnt include if the case goes to trial where then we would have to pay for him to fly from Portland to Seattle to testify( not including his hourly rate while he is up here plus all costs for him to stay in seattle. Now iam probably a bit naive but it seems a little harsh for someone who i would hope is a lover of animals to be charging thousands of dollars to give his expert opinion where another vet killed an animal. Does anyone know of a vetrinarian service that offers free or cheaper advice to people dealing with these kinds of situations. It has been a very depressing day today because the high costs are almsot making this case not worth pursuing and the fact that a verternarian who is suppose to be an "expert" at treating animals can get away with something like this is even worse. It breaks our hearts knowing that they will probably get away with this and we want to do all we can for our little Chewy! We have Pudgy now and we love him with ever fiber in our bodies but we still hold that special place for our first baby and want to do everything we can to make this right.. any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated! |
Could you talk to a more local vet to get their opinion on your case? What makes this vet an "expert" on the case? I would think there has to be someone local that would be able to help you. That's awful that a fellow animal lover couldn't waive the fees to help you. This person must have some vacation time being a vet, so it's not like he or she would be losing money by leaving his or her practice to help. Talk to your lawyer- that has to be another solution. Can your local animal shelter or ASPCA be any help to you? Perhaps you could make a donation to their organization in exchange for their help? Don't give up yet- there has to be another solution. |
I totally agree with CentralNewYorki... dont give up... Definitely try the ASPCA or animal shelter .. that vet cant get away with the death of your baby. I wonder if there's any probono lawyers out there who will look at the case... Pls dont stop fighting ... exhaust all outlets first. |
try small claims court the limit is $5000 now I believe...there should be no reason you cant defend yourself. You , nor the vet can be represented by an attorney! |
Ive been thinking about that. Also, have thought about contacting some of the local Universities to see if the professors might be able to give an opinion (who knows they might be just as expensive). Other options we have considered is to try and create more media attention on this item and/or hit them where it hurts by informing their new and perspective customers about their practices. |
