***** Need Help from moms of Tiny Yorkies *** Hi all Yorkie Mommies and daddies... I need a bit of help. My little DaisyLove is almost 2yrs old... 3.5lbs. She does pretty well at going potty outside, she sleeps with me and every night about 2-2:30am - she wakes up and has to go out. It's like having an infant... maybe worse. I love the little booger... but I need t sleep. I have tried taking her out just before bed, taking up her water etc..... are there any new ideas out there. Also - and I don't think has anything to do with her size, but she has started itching.... at first I thought she had fleas but she doesn't. She also chews and bites her feet.... anyone have any idea what this can be?? I appreciate any help I can get..... thanks, Daisy's mom - Susan |

I don't have any advice, just wanted to share that i'm having a similiar issue with mine. They wake about 5:00am and I have to bring them down to their ex-pen. I KNOW they can hold it because they didn't do this before, they sleep in a crate together in my room. Guess they think since its light out they need to be up |
She has eaten the same thing since DAY ONE.... Little Ceaser (wet food) and mostly IAMS puppy..... and turkey. Could it be the "little Beggin Strips" she gets for a treat?? |
Could be, or it could be whatever she is being bathed in, being bathed to often... so many things. |
Jackie - how old and how small are your babies?? |
My little Quinn use to do the same thing...he is almost 4lbs and he will be two this month..... he would wake me up every night around 3am or so and within the past few months he has stopped and is sleeping till 6:00am..I contributed it to his size because he would pee everytime I let him out then run back upstairs to go to bed.... and I tried letting him out later at night to see if it helped and it didn't..he just sort of out grew it recently.. and I know it is like having a newborn.... |

I feel like it is just the dog or the habit the dog is in. Teddi is 3 lbs and I take her out when I get home from work at 6 and then I feed her about 7 and then I take her outbefore I got to bed about 11:30 and then I don't take her out again until after I take a shower and am ready to go for a walk. We go for a walk about 8:15 am and she does a lot of pees and then she is home inside until I get back from work again at 6pm. I do leave pads down but she uses them about twice a week. On the weekends if I want to sleep in Teddi will sleep however long I want to sleep. The reason that I feel like it is the dog or the habit the dog is in is that my best friend has a 20 lb. cockapoo and she has to take her out at 5am every morning because that is the time she usually takes her out before work and on the weekends she wakes her up to take her out at that time. I am so glad my dog doesn't do that!!! |
Oh Goodie... it's a good thing I love the little Monster...LOL I haven't really slept a full nite since I brought her home...... |
Well, both my dogs have to go at night. Marcel is 3.4 lbs. - and he uses his stairs to get off the bed and then uses a pad. Wylie is 7.5 and he has always had to go potty once at night. If we hear him, we let him out. If we don't, he uses the pad. As for the itching - it could be seasonal this time of year - or it could be food; what are you feeding? |

I have an x-pen that is halved and she has two pee pads in it. When Onni needs to go in the middle of the night (which is not often any more) I put her in there, she does her business and I bring her back to bed. It makes going back to sleep a whole lot easier than taking her all the way outside. :) |
hmmm... i don't know if it has to do with size necessarily. Kash is 3.5 lbs and he sleeps through the night. i take him out before we go to bed around 10 p.m. and then i wake up at 7 a.m. and take him out. he doesn't jump off the bed to pee on the floor and he doesn't wake me up to take him out... i know he doesn't jump off because, if he did, he'd beg to get back up (we don't have doggie steps or a ramp). he DOES know, however, when it's exactly 7 a.m. though. because if i sleep even 1 minute passed 7 a.m. he just sits directly in front of my face and stares at me until i wake up and take him out. lol. |
Does your yorkie have dandruff maybe? That would cause an uncomfortable itch. Changing foods would be the ideal thing to do too. A lot of times this has to do with the food. There are so many high quality foods to choose from that are 100% healthier for your Yorkies. kibble is important for the teeth because eating soft food is not as healthy, and makes cannine teeth much worse. Using pee pads is a great option for the middle of the night potty breaks. Be sure that your little one can get out of your bed safely, and then use a pee pad for her. A pee pad has a scent for dogs to use. You would not have to wake up anymore either. :aimeeyork |
