Winston is Like Grooming a Werewolf! Winston is about 3 months old and Grooming him is near impossible and dangerous. Id like some advice. This is how I groom winston...I brush him daily using very gentle strokes for the larger tangles then I use a small comb around his face and feet where he sometimes gets knots. We have our daily ritual where I put him in my lap and brush him. He does okay when I brush his back and chest but when I get anywhere near his whiskers or under his eyes, he FREAKS! He yelps and squirms and eventually growls and shows his teeth. I know grooming will be a huge part of his life and he needs to learn to accept it. Any help is appreciated! Thanks Much!@ |
He has to get into the routine. That's the best I can tell you. I am SURE others have more. Baxter was terrible when I first started brushing him and his teeth (when he was small), but after awhile, he was used to it. |
You are going to think that I finally flipped but it worked, so call me nuts. I had a terrible time with Bengie my oldest yorkie, when I reached for the brush he went under the bed adn stayed for hours. I went and bought some almond aromatherapy oil. I get Benni in my lap (no brush in his sight) and slowly rub some of this oil behind his ears and then stroke him until he falls about half asleep, then I slowly bring his brush in. By this time, he is so relaxed he does not even know I am brushing him. It may sound nuts, but it does work. |
