Ouch! I noticed that Adie was limping about every third step and when she laid down she started licking her hind foot. When I investigated I saw that she had cracked her toenail all the way around the cuticle and right up against her toe. I took her to the vet and the vet had to remove the whole thing. I was a basket case. I was crying on the way in because I knew that clipping that toenail all the way off was going to hurt like hell. I could barely stand to watch the vet looking at it! When she asked me if I would hold Adie while she clipped it I just lost it. I couldn't imagine the scream that I was going to hear. We decided I needed to leave the room and the vet tech would hold her. I have NEVER had to leave an exam room before. I sat in the waiting area and, indeed, waited to hear the cry of pain and whimpering that would soon come rolling down the hall and into the outer office. The longer I waited the more anxious I became. Finally out comes the tech with Adie in her arms. No noise and Adie is grinning at me like she just chewed up something she shouldn't have. Not a peep out of her! She didn't even bleed that much! What a tough little ball of fur huh? |
I would have been just like you. I was almost sick while I was reading this, because I expected you to say she started screaming. My, she is a brave little girl!:D |
I am sorry your baby was hurt. She is tough little one though! Thak god it did not hurt her. I was scared that she was in pain too. I would not have been able to stay in there either. :aimeeyork |
What a tough furbaby! ...I understand having to leave the room....I can't even hold my boys while they get shots! |
I thought, too, that you were going to say she let out a heart-stopping cry. Glad it didn't happen that way. Rosie has a tiny tooth pulled yesterday and I couldn't stay. Just paced out in the waiting room. UGH!!! Joanne |
Geez... that girl can hold her own! But like you, that would have scared the pa-jesus outta me. Glad to hear that it all went smoothly for you! |
I guess they are braver than we give them credit for!!! |
Adie sure is a toughie! Don't know about the human parent though...just kidding! I'm sooo glad that she wasn't hurt terribly like you were expecting. |
Awww poor thing.... I know i would have been the same as you. At least she will start feeling better now! |
Poor little girl...glad she was a brave little one. Sometimes I think it is harder for the parents. I gave my BF's cocker Kobe his yearly shots a few days ago, and he didn't want to hear him or hold him. ( I waited until my BF went to work) I put Kobe on the counter, massaged where the shot was going and gave it to him. He looked at me like what am I up here for. Not one peep...so I gave him a treat for being a brave boy. :) |
wow thats amazing! she is so strong and brave. My little fisher would have been so mad at me and prob would ignore me forever lol. I do some shadowing at the vets offices and I have never had an experience with that. You would think they would put her to sleep for something like that, like they do when they declaw cats. I am so glad she is doing well. |
Did the vet say if the nail is supposed to grow back........or is it gone for good? |
it should grow back, unless they were to slice it and cut the little nob out that is inside the "toe" |
eeek that made me cringe the whole time I was reading it, then I got to the part where they brought her out :p what a tough little cookie! |

I have always said Adie is a tomboy but I think she may be tougher than I thought. And GeorgiaGrits (Love the name) That is just the point. I have never wimped out at the vets before. I have even stayed in the room when my youngest skin son got a spinal tap. I'm a certified EMT-I for Pete's sake I have dealt with blood, guts and overdoses! I just couldn't take hearing my baby scream! PS - the son is fine. |
