Gabby was spayed yesterday!
 
Gabby, a 6 month old yorkipoo, was spayed yesterday. I drop her off at 8am and picked her up at 4pm. I was so nervouse but everything went well. I've never seen her so sad looking though, it made me want to cry. She slept most the evening, though I didn't sleep much, I was so worried about her. Today she is more herself, but still tired and moving slowly.

Couple questions for those that have been through this:

1) How do you know if they are in pain? She is not crying and seems to be fine. They told me to give her pain medicine before going to bed last night, which I did. And then once a day as needed. So far I haven't given it to her today. Do you think she is in pain?

2) How long should I keep her in a onsie? Last night I took it off and put the e-collar on her, so incase she needed to go potty (she sleeps in the kitchen and uses a potty pad during the night and when we are gone).

You'll see her wince, if she's in pain. I had a onesie for mine, but I never needed to put it on her. Her stitches were inside and I just watched her and she never bothered them. You can try leaving it off and watch her if you can.

I'm glad she's ok. I started to say, "What do you mean? I did cry when I left her and Muffin both.":D

I talked to the doctors and they told me to give her the pain medicine last night, which I did. We decided to put the ecollar on her during the night or when we can't watch her, she hates it!

The hardest thing now is keeping her calm and from jumping. Less than 24 hours after her surgery she was running and jumping all over the place! Its like she didn't just have major surgery :)

I am glad she is feeling okay. My boyfriend kept his pup from jumping all over the place by placing a bunch of pillows in his crate. He was very comfy but couldn't move around much. (He liked it so much now he trys to put his brothers smaller bed in his crate) :)

Tricksie did the same thing, running and jumping as if nothing had been done to her, she didn't take pain meds nor the ecorrar.
She didn't have stitches, it was a glue and I had to watch that she didn't lick, no scar either.
Good luck with that little one.:p

I am happy she is through with surgery and home recuperating.

Glad she came through it all ok!! Roxie didn't bother her stitches. We kept her in the crate when not able to keep an eye. She also wanted to jump off the bed and stuff which freaked me out the first time she did. She just did it so fast I couldn't get there fast enough to stop her. Amazingly it didn't do anything. The pain meds do help keep them quiet for the first few days even if they don't seem to be in pain. I think that's partially why the vets have us use them. At least for the ones that are over active. We didn't use it for very long. Luckily they heal fast!! :D

We are keeping her from jumping as much as before, but like you said she is just too fast! I am hoping it does not cause any harm to her. She hasn't seemed to bother her stiches, she licks more at her leg where they had the IV.
