Well i'm super excited because i just got a a new baby in my life named dolly she is a Yorkshire terrier and she is the nicest dog in the world! i also have a shelpachidoodle (sheltie paillon chihuahua poodle mix) and she is loving her new sister... now my question is.... i got her from a breeder who did not want her anymore she is 4 turning 5, but my sister wants me to get one more litter of puppy and immediatly said NO because i know that she is probably too old and yorkies already have a problem giving birth, but i wanted to ask you guys... what do you think???

Most reputable breeders retire their females at 4 to 5 years of age. Not to mention you would need to have her health tested before breeding...

There is a risk any time a female gets pregnant. Because of a yorkie's size...
a c section is always a possiblity.

I'd say...have her spayed and let her enjoy her diva status.

Hi, welcome to Yorkietalk, I agree with Bchgirl, let your baby retire and lead the good life. The breeder probably would have let her have another litter if it was safe, so I wouldn't breed her if I were you. I'm so glad Dolly's found a new home, and gets on well with her new sis. Hello Dolly! :D

thank you! that is what i was planning to do anyways! i'm so excitedddd because i've been planning to get a yorkie for the past 5 years but i've been very carefull of the breeder and every aspect of getting a yorkie... the funny thing is that i got dolly who is an older dog, but she was just perfect for me she is the cutest and sweetest dog !!! i'm gonna post some pictures when ever i figure out how hehehehhe i'm so happy i'm a groomer because if no ti couln't keep the long hair.... the breeder gave her a maternity cut which is shave belly they cut short the back and the snout area, so i'm hoping by december she will have her coat all beautiful and ready!! i have only one problem... she likes all the rooms in my house except for mine... i don't know what to do about it any suggestions?

Your 1st reaction was the correct reaction. She needs to enjoy the good life.

As far as your room goes, Dolly is propbably just adjusting and are you wanting her to sleep with you?? Maybe she is not used to that. Did she sleep alone or with other dogs in her previous home? I would find that out

to be honest with you i don't really know and i have no way of getting in touch with the breeder i made an album of dolly and now i need to add some of nala my other baby :D

Do you mean you want her to sleep in your room? There could be a couple of different reasons why she doesn't like it. The former owner's bedroom may have been off limits...or she simply prefers to sleep elsewhere.

All three of mine are allowed to sleep in my bed...but my Reese prefers to sleep in his bed on the floor beside mine.

If she has a crate or bed she uses...you could try placing that in your room and perhaps she'd feel more comfortable. Giving her treats in your room would make her realize it's a nice place to be also.

i've been doing the treats in my room and she is fine once she is inside of my room but when i call her to come in she runs away and any other room i call her from she come without any problems... the breeder did not give me a bed, but she told me she had one so i bought her one and put it next to my bed, but she still doesn't like my room... hahahaha i mean she has two weeks with me maybe she needs a lil more time...

Hi, Welcome to YT :aimeeyork Dolly does need time to a:aimeeyork adjust to her new surroundings. Maybe she had a bad experience in a bedroom. I'd also go with your first reaction to the breeding question. You might even want to consider spaying her too. It is healthier for them to be spayed and prevents things like tumors.

I am very interested in learning what the experts amongst you think!! I would love to have a baby from my Yorkie but am terrifed of losing her. I know that a smaller Yorky male would be the best for her. She is 3 1/2 and has never been crossed. Shall I risk it?

No. She is too small.

if you do find a smaller male yokie then i say yes, but have her check with the vet first and keep a close eye with the vet throught the pregnacy:aimeeyork

I'd say have her spayed, and just let her enjoy her life. Maybe some where down the road you'll get another puppy that you can breed.

I also say to get her spayed and let her enjoy her life with you...I have 3 (2 are rehomed) and have never considered breeding because there are so many , as I'm sure in your country too, that needs rehoming, why don't you consider that if you want company for the one you already have...
Believe me, you will get much more satisfaction helping someone in need !!!:2puppy::2puppy:
