Car Seat Question Okay guys. I'm attempting to build my own car seat this weekend, but there are a few questions I have! First one... attachment to seat. For those that have them, do they attach to the seatbelt? Or strap around the seat? I was thinking about strapping it around but then thought when I have another passenger, it will be in the back so I guess it would have to attach to the seatbelt. I'm going to have to figure that one out! Second question... harness. How is the harness attached? I thought I could get a seabelt harness from Walmart and just have her higher in the seat, but that won't happen if I'm attaching the carseat to the seatbelt. Plus it looks like the length from the seatbelt to the harness is pretty short, so would she even have room to get high enough to be in the carseat? So I think I somehow need to attach it to the carseat.... Should I also get a special padded harness? If I could get answers by this afternoon that would be great :) I'm going to my parents' house for the weekend and my dad is helping build. They are in the middle of nowhere and have no internet! Thanks in advance for any suggestions! |
BUMP... Anyone have a carseat?... |
bump.. good luck making that seat. i hope u get good responses. im on the same boat u r in, except im not trying to make it. im not very good at making stuff. lol. |
I have a carseat for Sandy that straps to the front seat. (Bucket seat. It straps around the top and bottom of the seat vertically. The top goes around the headrest.) It can also be changed to strap horizontally to the back seat. Her harness straps to the seatbelt. I am currently looking at the big booster ones that all 3 of them can ride in. So they are up where they can see out.. and still be attached to the seatbelt. |
Thanks! I've never attempted making anything like this before, so we'll see how it turns out :) That's interesting that it can adjust to the front or back... How is that exactly? I guess there would be two straps at the bottom and two at the top, so instead of attaching them around the back sideways, you'd just attach a bottom one to a top one? How do they attach? is it a buckle? And does the harness buckle into the seatbelt buckle then? Sorry for so many questions! |
The one I use has straps in the back to run the seatbelt through it, but I actually prefer to run the seatbelt all the way around it and tuck it in a groove. It seems to secure it better. Unless you have an airbag that you can turn off in front, keep the car seat in the back. The air bag could kill a small dog. |
