top knot questions just wondering...how long should i leave the top knot in??? im afraid of leaving it all the time...so i dont know what to do! what do you all do? all day? all week? even through the night? let me know! |
I leave it in all the time. Joey's breeder said that after you put the topknot in, slide a metal comb between the band and the skull, this assures that the topknot isn't on too tight. If you see a bald spot in this area, it means the topknot is too tight for too long. |
Hi! If your baby is ok with the top knot (doesn't paw at it constantly) then it should be ok overnight. I do recomend that my customers take the band out and redo it at least every other day. I like to redo it everyday. It looks better that way and you can inspect that area to make sure it isn't hurting your baby! Also, Petsilk topknot gel is the bomb! It helps keep all of those little stray hairs in place! |
I put the top knot up in the morning and take it down before we go to bed. I used to leave it through the night but noticed too much hair breakage...plus I don't think it hurts to give their little heads & hair a rest through the night. And no one sees them with their bed heads :p If you choose to leave one in all the time, I'd just be sure to redo it at least once a day |

I agree with this advise, and redo the topknot each day, also love Petsilk topknot gel! |
I'm not a professional but I do Tessa's hair in the morning and take it out at night. :) |

I always wondered this also, but I figure they feel the way I do after wearing a ponytail all day. At the end, it just needs to come down and let loose. |
I LOVE the Petsilk topknot gel. My baby's hair is not long enough for a real topknot yet but it works great in keeping the growing hairs out of her eyes without a topknot. |
i think it looks cute with the hair in a topnot, i will be doing this to my baby when i get her and when it is long enough can i get the Petsilk topknot gel in the uk? Tracy x |
I also, take it out every night. You can use a band to put it on tighter to hold the hair up, then either use a bow with a barrette or bow with a band and slip it over or through the hair. When it comes time to remove, slip the bow off and carefully snip the band (be sure not to snip any hair). This helps avoid any pulling of the hair. I usually massage Katy's head a little too. I know I get that wierd itchy feeling in my head when I take my hair down after my it has been up for a while. Quote:

I leave all of mine in, just comb them out and put them back up everyday, if you use the soft scrunchies you'll get minimal damage to the hair. |

My dogs have always the hair pulled up... I try to comb it every day, and we use the little goody claws for every day, and bows for special occasions, I would love to have them with bows all the time but darn Juanito pulls Luna's out all day long, and if I just use the claws, he doesn't pull it... I guess the point is comb it every day... even if you put it up again inmediatelly... and cut the grooming bands, not pull them out... We don't use gel, as I find they need a bath even sooner... maybe on special occasions. |
