Yet another puppy question. . . Bella's puppies were born on July 16th. We are not giving them away until they are 10 to 12 weeks old. I have checked with the breeder who advised me that I should start weening them at three weeks old. I have researched on the Internet and seen several different answers - all the way up to 10 weeks old. If anyone could give me some help, I would really appreciate it. Also, when you introduce them to food, can they simultaneously continue nursing or do you just cut them off right then? As always, I appreciate all the help from everyone. :thumbs up |
weaning I offer food at 4 weeks...and want then 100% weaned by 6 to 7weeks. They will want to nurse on mom over dish food, so you may have to take mom away for a few hours...by 5 to 6 weeks all my moms are very ready to be rid of nursing. |
AS FAR AS FEEDING GOES I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT THAT. BUT, WHEN RESEARCHING AFTER COUNTLESS HOURS ABOUT YORKIES & BREEDERS I THINK ITS REALLY PREFERENCE. MOST PEOPLE ALLOW THEM TO GO TO THEIR NEW HOMES AROUNG 10 WEEKS HOWEVER, SOME THINK THAT 12 WEEKS IS THE BEST (ESPECIALLY IF THERE SMALLER). HOPE YOU FIND THE ANSWERS YOUR LOOKING FOR. THERE ARE LOTS OF BREEDERS THAT ARE MEMBERS OR YT! |

Having Troubles My situation is similar - but in another way - I just got Sophie, who is 8 weeks old. I naturally assumed she was weened... I know, I know... don't assume such a thing. As we were leaving the home with her, I realized the breeder was putting the puppies all back into the crate with the mama and I mentioned how sweet - you know? And she said, well yeah, they are still nursing - right up until they leave her - that is what's most healthy. she handed me a sample of dog food they had been supposedly eating that my full grown GERMAN SHORTHAIR could be eating, so there is just now way. So anyway, got her some tiny bites and some soft food to mix in, etc., etc., she want nothing to do with it - she barely even drinks out of the water. All she wants to do is be curled up in my clothes with me somewhere on my body. Do I need to bottle feed and ween her to dog food, since it looks like that was possibly untrue - or will she come around and just eat? |
