Yorkies and chewing wood Is it just me or what?? My dogs have tons of toys and chewys but love to chew on the wood of my furniture!!! |
Some dogs love wood, others are partial to leather etc. However wood splinters can do a great deal of damage to a pups insides. Here's a trick I've used over the years with new pups who like to chew my furniture. I wrapped the feet/legs of all my furniture with duct tape. I'll admit it is not exactly award winning decor but it did the trick. Just watch they don't switch to baseboards and door frames though. I once had a yorkie who ate paint, wood filler, silicone or anything else that looked like building supplies. She'd lick the paint off the walls as fast as you could get it on there if I wasn't careful. Oh she also liked anything round. Very strange girl she was. |
thank you for the tip at this point ill do anything even if it looks funny haha |
human nature i guess... |
One of my puppies really likes my furniture. Fortunately, it's cheap. I've tried spraying deterrent on it, but that didn't stop him! Now he's starting to use his chew toys most of the time. It's amazing how much damage those tiny teeth can do... |
Dublin is my second dog that likes to chew wood. (For some reason family antiques taste best!) The good news is that they do grow out of it - at least my first dog did! Another trick that isn't attractive but is effective... Wrap aluminum foil around whatever it is that they want to chew. I put it on furniture legs and around the bottom of plants to keep them out. Good luck! |
thank you for chewing tips thank you for all the tips Ill try them all.. ;) |
Deodorant Works It really does. I have 7 running around here antiquing all of my furniture with their Yorkie teethies. I have put Dollar Store deodorant on everything that they had already chewed (daddy's antique family chest was a prime dessert) and there is not one new bite mark on anything! I can hardly believe it, but tis true. And, it doesn't show.. |
What brand deodorant... Rini, I just used my husbands and I put some on a corner of carpet, and it shows up white. Did you buy the clear stuff?? |
I use the clear deodorant....any kind but I think I had bought degree and he HATES it....that was the ONLY thing that got him to stope chewing!! |
Brody loves sticks, but has more or less stayed away from furniture. Maybe they are looking for fiber? |
I read about the clear deodorant in another thread so I bought some and I was going to use it the other day, but the back label said something about if this should get ingested seek medical attention??? So - I didn't use it. What does yours say, or is the trick that they won't like it and not ingest the stuff? I desparatly need to find something to stop the chewing (wall, moulding, couch, etc.) |
They will lick it and HATE IT...not enought o hurt them but it will deter them..it is actually quite funny..Maximus will go lick and make this horrible face..look up at me "like what gives"..and then waddle away...lol |
the partie yorkies ive never heard of them is that what they are called?? They are so awsome looking how did they come up with that breed or has it been around awhile.. very pretty dogs!!!!!!! |
