Jade's hair is starting to turn silver at the roots of her back. She is 4 1/2 months old and she is still looks "scruffy" to me. She still has a lot of black but I see it starting to turn gold now. I brush her every day, a few times a day but she never "looks" like I brushed her. How long does this stage last for? |
You can try using conditioner if you want her hair to lay flat...although if she still has a lot of puppy coat...it may not help. You probably won't see her full coloring change for at least a year...and sometimes it will continue to change up to 3 years. |
Phoebe is 20 weeks old and is turning silver where heir topnot is. I was told the sire's parents and grandparents have this same trait but it looks as though it may eventually go further than just the top of her head. She also looks scruffy and matts pretty easily, close to the skin. Will be nice when that stops happening. Love the dark, puppy colors but combing the coat with matts isn't fun. Guess we'll hang in there together. They are like little mood rings...you never know what color they might end up being ;) |
Yes Jade mats very easily also close to the skin. I try to stay on top of them. She was full of mats when I got her from the breeder. Breeder said from playing with her litter mates. I had to cut some out. She is fine now. Every so often I catch a mat and I usually can comb it out. I use Pantene shampoo and conditioner on my 2 babies. I blow them dry too. If I dont blow them dry then their hair is curly. Why is it curly? I thought Yorkies had straight hair? |
I've wondered this about the curly and straight hair too. I've seen some with thick curly fluffy hair. Roxie has straight thin hair. It's probably the thickest around her neck. Maybe that's why I haven't had problems with matting. She did get into some burs once. Now that was a matted mess. They were completely pressed into her face near her eye. She happened to walk along the tree line in the backyard and brushed against these dreadful things. It was awful, I didn't want to shave her face so I took conditioner to it and it softened them and I got them all out thank goodness. Curly or straight hair, they're all beautiful sweet little dogs and I'm so blessed to have my own. For the mats though maybe a good conditioner would help or even a spray like Johnson's No More Tears except in a dog version. |
